The 2021 Cox Plate first acceptances have been released with 79 horses in contention to win the 'best two minutes in sport'.

2020 Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet heads a classy list of entries while the likes of rising-star Incentivise, Australia's two best WFA gallopers Zaaki and Verry Elleegant, along with three-year-olds Anamoe, Artorius and Converge are the other notable horses nominated for the $5M event.

As for the internationals, Gold Trip looks the headliner, sitting third in the betting, holding a very similar profile to Sir Dragonet, while State The Rest was one the sole internationally trained galloper who has accepted.

The three-year-old to watch will be Anamoe, always looking as if he would be a better three-year-old, while connections have also stated that he will be aimed at the Cox Plate after a tilt at the Caulfield Guineas.

Racing Victoria have released a statement around the key players who have accepted for the Cox Plate.

“As well as dominant local hopes Zaaki and Verry Elleegant, this year’s Cox Plate field could also feature a newcomer to the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable in the form of Gold Trip, who is set to arrive in Australia at month’s end," Racing Victoria stated.

"The northern hemisphere four-year-old, who has been purchased by Australian interests, was fourth in last year’s Arc De Triomphe in France. His arrival increases the chances of Maher and Eustace retaining the title they won in such style last year courtesy of Sir Dragonet, one of three first acceptors from Victoria’s leading stable.

"State of Rest was one of three late entries for the Cox Plate and the last start Group 1 Saratoga Derby winner in the USA is the sole internationally trained first acceptor for Joseph O’Brien. He and import Fourhometwo, now a stablemate of Zaaki, are the two northern hemisphere three-year-olds among the first acceptors."
