Willie Mullins and the Ricci's will have been delighted to see Vauban handed a kind low draw in stall three. Stall five has proven to be the most successful barrier in the Melbourne Cup, and that birth will be filled by Military Mission this time around.

Gold Trip will break from stall two, having won well from gate 13 12 months ago. Absurde will break from stall eight, with the well-fancied Soulcombe landing a lovely draw in stall four.

A winner from stall 21 in 2021, Vow And Declare will have to cope with another wide draw, having been placed in stall 19. Without A Fight comes out of stall 16, with Okita Soushi, Sheraz, Cleveland and More Felons also landing unfavourably wide draws.
