The first leg of the Australian Three-Year-Old Triple Crown begins this Saturday with the running of the Group One Randwick Guineas.

Known as the Canterbury Guineas up until 2005 and over varying trips ranging from 1800 to 1900 metres, this race now has a permanent Royal Randwick home and is run over 1600m.

The Randwick Guineas has become a much bigger fixture overall in that time and this year sees the unbeaten Aegon as the early $2.30 favourite with Unibet Australia.

2021 Randwick Guineas Tips

2021 Randwick Guineas Best Bet - Aegon

Aegon kept his unbeaten record intact with an outstanding Australian debut win in the Hobartville Stakes which saw him come into outright favourism for the 2021 Randwick Guineas, and all things being equal, it's hard to see what turns the tables from that race.

The talented son of Sacred Falls was unwanted late in the betting prior to that Australian debut ($3.60-$4.80) having only been second-up and a month between runs, but it mattered not where after travelling well, he exploded once balancing up late.

This step up to the mile only suits the Baker & Forsman-trained gelding, a visiting New Zealand stable with an outstanding record in the Sydney Autumn Carnival and for brilliance, this may the best galloper they've ever brought across the ditch, which is a big rap in itself.

2021 Randwick Guineas Value Bet - Mo'unga

Hindsight is always a great thing, but did they let a golden opportunity slip by not staying in Melbourne and contest the Australian Guineas? Perhaps they did but with over even further trips, this colt could be a serious player in the autumn.

In what has been one of the weaker three-year-old crops Australian racing has seen in some time, Mo'unga could be the shining light for the middle distance/staying ranks, a colt who looked quite lacklustre in his trials but still performed superbly first-up in the CS Hayes Stakes.

Despite racing greenly and looking very raw in his work via the first racing preparation, ability alone took this son of Savabeel a long way and although there's genuine queries whether he can match Aegon at a mile, Mo'unga oozes class while if he can finally put it together, it'll be some race.
