Sunday's rescheduled Betfair Hurdle card at Newbury also features the Denman Chase. This Grade Two has been won by plenty of classy horses down the years, with Kauto Star, Coneygree, Native River and Denman himself going on to lift the Cheltenham Gold Cup after winning at Newbury.

Many of Britain's best chasers look set to line up in this competitive race on Sunday. We've taken a look through the odds and picked out our best bet.

With Champ, rather bizarrely, switched to the two-mile Game Spirit Chase after the initial date was cancelled, Clan Des Obeaux will carry the tag of odds-on favouritism into Sunday's renewal of the Denman Chase. I, however, am happy to take the market leader on.

Clan Des Obeaux may be a former winner of this race, but his victory came when the race was held at Ascot. Paul Nicholls' dual-King George winner is clearly better going right-handed and he's only won two of his eleven starts during the second half of the season.

I remain a fan of Lostintranslation, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce back. However, after two shocking performances so far this season, I don't fancy touching him with my own money.

Secret Investor is a very good horse on favourable ground, but his record on soft isn't nearly as good. Cepage looks more likely to take up his entry in the Ascot Chase next weekend, and I'll be hoping The Conditional runs a lovely race and finishes down in fourth or fifth, as I really fancy him for a repeat bid in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Simply The Betts is completely unproven over this distance, and this could be a pipe-opener for a return to the Paddy Power Plate. Cepage has done all his best work over shorter trips, and I highly doubt whether novice Fiddlerontheroof will join stablemate Lostintranslation in the final field.

This leaves me with KALASHNIKOV. Thanks to Champ's rerouting, Amy Murphy's star sits at a much shorter price this time around, but I'm still going to side with him an each-way bet at 6/1 is still a profitable ploy.

I tipped Kalashnikov win the rescheduled Peterborough Chase last time out. Amy Murphy's stable star was ridden away from the fifth-last, and Jack Quinlan was already hard at work jumping the third fence from the finish.  Yet, Kalashnikov responded to pressure really well, and produced his best jumps of the race at the final two flights. It was only Mister Fisher's superior turn of foot that turned out to be the difference on the run to the line.

Everything I've seen from Kalashnikov in the last 18 months suggests he's ready to run in three mile chases. On his return to action this term, Murphy dropped him into the Grade Three Handicap Hurdle over three miles on Betfair Chase day and, considering he was giving at least 12 pounds to the horses who finished ahead of him, I thought he ran quite well to finish seventh.

Kalashnikov loves it here at Newbury. Murphy's eight-year-old won the Betfair Hurdle here in 2018, and was only beaten a nose over two-and-a-half-miles in a handicap chase last season, when giving the winner, Oldgrangewood 20 pounds at the weights.

If Clan Des Obeaux and Lostintranslation run a little flat, which for both is perfectly possible, and Champ throws in another typically error-strewn performance, then I see no reason why Kalashnikov cannot challenge for the victory on Sunday.

Kalashnikov comes into this on the back of a very good run in the Peterborough Chase. He brings solid course form to the table and looks open to improvement over this distance. 6/1 is a decent each-way price.
