After day three at Glorious Goodwood wraps up on Thursday, attention will turn to Galway for the fourth day of their summer festival. The main event on Galway's card is the Galway Hurdle, a Grade Three handicap that boasts a rich history dating back to 1913.

Willie Mullins has won the Galway Hurdle four times in the past eight years, with all four winners carrying at least 11-5.

Willie runs eight in this year's renewal, including second-favourite Daddy Long Legs, who'll be ridden by Paul Townend. I doubt where Townend's mount is as good as the likes of Saldier and Sharjah, who both carried plenty of weight to victory in this handicap, and Daddy Long Legs has to bounce back from a shocking prep-run at Tipperary.

It's been almost ten years since JP McManus last won this handicap. His colours will be carried by Nicky Henderson's raider Under Control, who looks well-treated off this handicap mark of 137. The favourite does, however, have a long absence to overcome and Henderson has added a tongue-tie for this tough assignment.

Gorgeous Tom is certainly of interest, given how well he won during the Punchestown Festival. I've backed My Mate Mozzie for the Ebor, so I'd like to see Gavin Cromwell's charge run well in this race again. There are, however, two I like at longer prices.

2024 Galway Hurdle Tip 1 - Jesse Evans

Proven course form is always important at Galway, and few boast more of that than JESSE EVANS (16/1). Noel Meade's eight-year-old finished fourth behind Saldier in this race in 2021, second to Tudor City the following year, and second again to Zarak The Brave 12 months ago.

Meade hasn't run his stable star over hurdles since last year's trip to Galway. Jesse Evans has improved 12 pounds on the level over the past 12 months, and wasn't beaten far on his prep-run at Leopardstown last month. Talented claimer Conor Stone-Walsh has been booked to ride, meaning Jesse Evans is effectively running off a one-pound lower mark than 12 months ago. 16/1 is a fair each-way price.

2024 Galway Hurdle Tip 2 - Nusret

The only trainer to have interrupted Willie Mullins' and Tony Martin's recent domination of this contest is Joseph O'Brien, who saddled 2017 winner Tigris River. Four-year-old Nurburgring is Joseph's number one runner this year, but I'd rather back his second-string NUSRET (33/1), who'll be partnered by Jonny Burke.

With ground conditions in his favour, I fancied Nusret in the Ascot Stakes last month, but O'Brien's five-year-old was held up too far off the pace and never got involved in the contest. Nusret has done all of his winning going right-handed on good ground, so conditions at Galway should be ideal and this former winner of the Adonis Hurdle looks well-treated off his current mark of 139.
