Day two of Fairyhouse's Irish Grand National meeting is headlined by two Grade Ones. The second of those is the Gold Cup Novice Chase, which has been won by greats like Al Boum Photo, Dorans Pride and the legendary Arkle, who won this during his first season over fences in 1963.

We've taken a look through the ante-post betting and picked out our top tips.

After ante-post favourite Energumene came out, Asterion Forlonge has been backed to the head of the betting. Paul Townend's mount will be much more comfortable going right-handed, but he doesn't seem to finish off his races that well, and could get caught out for pace on quick ground over this distance. I don't really trust his jumping either.

Andy Dufresne clearly has plenty of talent, but he's shown a tendency to jump out to his left over fences, and that could be a big problem switching to a tight, right-handed track like Fairyhouse.

Conflated will have to pick up his game considerably to get involved. Franco De Port's staying ability has to be questioned, while both Cedarwood Road and Scarlet And Dove are untested at the highest level in mixed-sex company.

The one I fancy backing each-way is JANIDIL, who still seemed to be traveling well at the time of his fall behind Monkfish at the Dublin Racing Festival.

Janidil looked a real prospect on his chasing debut at Naas, seeing off no fewer than five future winners - including Cedarwood Road and January Jets - without breaking a sweat.

Mullins then threw his mount into the Grade One at Limerick over Christmas, and Mark Walsh's mount moved up to challenge Colreevy and Pencilfuloflead turning in. However, the bottomless ground soon caught up with Janidil, and he produced two tired leaps at the final couple of flights.

Mullins' seven-year-old ran up a hat-trick of victories in handicap hurdles last season. Two of those outings came on decent ground, with his most impressive win coming here at Fairyhouse. Janidil quicked clear of some decent horses in eye-catching fashion over 19-furlongs at Naas, and that turn-of-foot will come in handy at Fairyhouse this weekend.

Janidil skipped Cheltenham and this race at Fairyhouse would suit him perfectly. He can put it up to Astrion Forlonge, and maybe even beat his stablemate on good ground over 20 furlongs.
