Ballyandy's presence at the top of the weights leaves several classy and progressive hurdlers carrying relatively low weights. I'm not ruling Ballyandy out by any means, but only Rooster Booster has won the Greatwood off a similar mark, and I'm not sure Ballyandy has what it takes to win a Grade One, like Rooster Booster went on to do.

One who looks very well-treated at the weights is EDWARDSTONE, and he'll be the first of my Greatwood Hurdle tips.

Alan King's six-year-old boasts some impressive novice form from last season. Edwarstone finished second to Chantry House, before beating Fiddlerontheroof and Harry Senior - the second of those wins coming under a penalty. Following a narrow defeat in the Rossington Main, Edwardstone rounded off his season with a staying-on sixth in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

Six of the last 15 winners of this race have won the Greatwood fresh, and previous form in handicaps isn't particularly important. The in-form Alan King has won two of the last four renewals of this Grade Three handicap and, in Edwardstone, he looks to have the ideal type to make it three from five.

As only three of the last nine Greatwood winners have gone off at single-figure odds, and given we're likely to get a capacity field of 20 runners, I'll also have a punt on something at a more appealing, each-way price.

Having run in either the Supreme or the Triumph seems to be a vital trend with the Greatwood. So, with that in mind, I think there's plenty of value to be found backing SIR PSYCHO at 16/1.

After winning three of his first five starts last season, Paul Nicholls threw Sir Psycho into the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Bryony Frost's mount didn't produce his most fluent round of jumping, but staying on gamely up the hill to finish a four-length fifth.

Goshen's final-flight blunder turned that into a messy race. Yet, Aspire Tower and Allmankind, who didn't finish too far ahead of Sir Psycho that day, have both come out and won this season, so the form of the race is working out quite well.

Nicholls called on Bryan Carver to take five-pounds off Sir Psycho's back on his return to action in the Grade Three Silver Trophy Handicap at Chepstow. The top-weight ran well at the front for much of that race, before running out of steam on after the last, on what was his first start over two-and-a-half miles.

Dropping back to two miles looks a shrewd move, and I'm sure Nicholls will be delighted to see the deluge of rain that's due to hit Cheltenham on Saturday and Sunday morning. Sir Psycho seemed to relish soft ground last season, and I was impressed with how he stayed on up the hill on his first start around this track in the Triumph.

Verdict

Edwardstone ticks all the boxes when looking for a winner of the Greatwood, and he can continue Alan King's strong record in this handicap.

I also think Sir Psycho has been dangerously overlooked, and Paul Nicholls' four-year-old offers plenty of value at 16/1.
