Our 40 To Follow series features 40 National Hunt horses who look set for successful campaigns in 2021/22. Three of the seven runners we've had so far have won, and one of our key tracker horses will make his reappearance at Wexford on Monday.

Tracker Alert - Monday 25th October

Eklat De Rire

Exciting chaser EKLAT DE RIRE will make his return to action in the feature chase at Wexford on Monday. Henry De Bromhead's seven-year-old won his first two starts over fences last term, and was still going well behind Monkfish in the Festival Novices' Chase at Cheltenham in March, before a small error at the third-last saw Rachel Blackmore flung from the saddle.

Henry De Bromhead used this race as a starting point for Minella Indo in 2020. He would score a 25-length success that day, before ending the season with that stunning victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Since then, the M.W. Hickey Memorial Chase has been downgraded from Grade Three to Listed class, meaning Eklat De Rire will have to give weight to most of the field. John Ryan's progressive mare, Fairyhill Run will be getting 19 pounds from the likely market leader, if she does take her chance on ground which will be softer than ideal.

Even under the burden of top-weight, I'd be shocked if Eklat De Rire didn't win on Monday. De Bromhead's seven-year-old has only started five races under rules in his entire career and remains tremendously progressive.

I'm convinced this lad is of Grade One quality. Whether he's up to Gold Cup standard, only time will tell, but an emphatic victory on Monday would be the perfect way to kick off what could be a successful campaign.

Note - This article was published on Saturday before Monday's betting markets opened. Let's hope we can get a decent early price!
