Race 1 - Handicap Chase Tips

A very tricky opener, where a case can be made for several. I quite fancy an each-way punt on DRUMCLIFF, who ran a funny old race when finishing third here over a longer trip last time out.

Harry Fry's nine-year-old was very keen, and pulled his way to the front coming down the back straight. Sean Bowen's mount was eventually headed by two classier sorts and made a mistake at the last, but kept on well to hang on to third.

Fry's nine-year-old is currently nine-pounds lower than his last winning mark. Aine O'Connor has been in Drumcliff's saddle during both his most recent wins - including an Amateur Jockey's Handicap over course-and-distance - and her claimer leaves Fry's contender carrying just 10-1.

Race 2 - Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle Tips

OUR POWER made his move at the same time as War Lord when they met here last month, but Sam Twiston-Davies' mount was severely hampered by a faller at the third-last. With a furlong to travel, War Lord opened up an eight-length lead, but Our Power kept finding on the run to the line and was only a few lengths adrift of the winner when they passed the post.

Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge was giving the winner five pounds that day, but the War Lord will have to give him a pound this time around. There should be plenty of pace on ahead of Our Power in this handicap and, given a little more luck down the home straight, he can reverse the form with the market leader.

Race 4 - Tommy Whittle Tips

Three-and-a-quarter-miles on heavy ground at Haydock is going to take some staying, and there are a few in here who have questions to answer about both trip and ground. One who seems fairly solid to me is CRIXUS'S ESCAPE, so I'll place my faith in Gill Boanas' seven-year-old.

Sean Quinlan's mount ended last season with a superb win over 22-furlongs at Kelso, easing to a 22-length victory on bottomless ground. Crixus's Escape bounced back from a poor reappearance at Aintree in good style at Ayr last month, outstaying Scottish Borders National winner Bigironship, despite stumbling after the final flight.

Boanas' stable star is up another six pounds for that win, but a grueling slog on heavy ground seems right up his street.

The best-handicapped runner in this field has to be THE CONDITIONAL, who was dropped a pound after finishing third in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. David Bridgewater's charge won the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival last season, rounding off an impressive first season on British soil.

Although I thought he was still well-treated, I felt The Conditional might be in need of the run ahead of his second crack at the Ladbrokes Trophy. That certainly looked to be the case, as Brendan Powell's mount jumped beautifully around Newbury, only to run out of steam as Cloth Coth powered to victory.

This will be his first start around a right-handed track in Britain, but The Conditional did win at Thurles during his time in Ireland. He certainly remains open to further progression off 146, and should make his presence felt in this Listed contest.

Race 6 - Betfair Exchange Trophy Tips

We started with a tricky puzzle to solve, and we finish with an even more difficult race to unravel. Arrivederci and Malaya are on the shortlist, and Irish raider Belfast Banter is respected, but the one I'm going to back here is HARAMBE.

Alan King's hurdler won a classy renewal of the Greatwood off 137 last season. Harambe was then making steady progress from the rear in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury, but was brought down by a faller at the final flight.

Having had no prep-run, Harambe returned to Cheltenham to try and defend his Greatwood crown last month. Again, Tom Bellamy's mount was just working his way into contention, when Ballinsker jumped across him at the last and Harambe came tumbling to the turf.

Harambe is a strong traveller and - despite a couple of letter next to his name in the form book - he's a very solid jumper. King's seven-year-old also boasts some useful form on right-handed tracks, having bolted up at Market Rasen and Kempton prior to pushing Getaway Trump all the way to the line in the 2019 Novices' Championship Final at Sandown. He offers excellent value at 16/1.
