ITV Racing Tips - Friday 7th May

Race 1 - Earl Grosvenor Handicap Tips

Horses drawn 1, 2, and 3 head the betting in the opener at Chester, and I fancy the chances of GROVE FERRY, who finished ahead of Ascension when the two met in the Lincoln last time out.

Andrew Balding's charge won well on his reappearance on the all-weather prior to running in the Lincoln. This will be a first start around Chester for Grove Ferry, but he's certainly well-handicapped and won around a similar track in Epsom during his juvenile campaign.

Race 2 - Handicap Chase Tips

FORGOT TO ASK has enjoyed another consistent campaign over fences. Having placed on his last four starts, Tom George's nine-year-old finally claimed a deserved victory at Plumpton in March, picking off Faustinovick after the last to claim a snug victory.

Harry Cobden went a really good gallop on Faustinovick that day. In fact, Forgot To Ask's winning time was eight seconds quicker than the 0-100 handicap held over the same course-and-distance later on that card. Ciaran Gethings' mount has only been pushed up the handicap by a pound after that win, and this looks an excellent opportunity to follow up.

Race 3 - Huxley Stakes Tips

Aidan O'Brien's horses may not be running that well at the moment, but ARMORY has six pounds in hand on the fragile Sangarius, and nine pounds over the rest of this field.

Armory finished a close fourth in the Irish 2000 Guineas on his reappearance last season. After a snug victory in the Royal Whip, O'Brien's charge ran on really well to place in the Irish Champion Stakes and performed well again in the Cox Plate, where he was second behind former stablemate Sir Dragonet.

Armory is drawn well in stall three, and has plenty of experience running on turning, left-handed tracks. The favourite should be very hard to beat.

Race 5 - Boodles Conditions Stakes Tips

I really can't see past EL ASTRONAUTE, who's either won or been beaten a head on his first start in each of the last four seasons. John Quinn's eight-year-old has run here at Chester six times in his career, winning twice, finishing second three times and a close third when drawn out in stall nine on his last visit.

El Astronaute placed in the Abbaye on heavy ground, so a little bit of extra juice in the ground here won't bother him. The favourite has to give three pounds to the field, but he seven pounds clear of his closest rival at the weights and is drawn nicely in stall four.

Race 6 - Retraining Of Racehorses Handicap Tips

Dr Marwan Koukash loves a winner around his local track. Sadly, the good Doctor doesn't have a strong challenger in the Chester Cup, but he does have an excellent chance of winning here with RESTORER.

Ian Williams' nine-year-old was won twice and finished second twice from his five starts here at Chester. Richard Kingscote guided Restorer to victory in this race in 2018, and they didn't run too badly when fourth off 101 on his reappearance in 2019.

Williams' grey ended last season with a victory here on the Roodee, and off a mark of 97, Restorer can regain his Chester crown.
