ITV Racing Tips - Sunday 2nd May

Race 1 - Betfair Exchange Handicap Tips

GLOBAL STORM is two from two on the Rowley Mile, winning a handicap in November 2019, before scoring on his first start of last season in the ten-furlong handicap which features later on this card.

Charlie Appleby's charge was beaten five lengths behind Zabeel Champion at the July Meeting last season. William Buick's mount was giving the winner ten pounds that day. That disparity in rating has now reversed, with Zabeel Champion giving Global Storm eight pounds, and that could be enough to see the Godolphin runner turn the tables on his rival.

Race 2 - City Bowl Handicap Tips

I'm tempted to take a punt on GUMBALL, who comes into this race-fit having run in a Grade One over fences at Aintree 22 days ago.

Philip Hobbs' grey won this race off a mark of 86 in 2019, before finishing fourth in a handicap at Newmarket off 90. Gumball was only rated 139 over jumps back then, but a couple of solid seasons have seen Hobbs' seven-year-old climb right up to 148. Given he's nine-pounds better over jumps than he was when he last ran on the level, Gumball could be very well treated running off his flat rating of 89.

Race 3 - Pretty Polly Stakes Tips

The top two in the betting here both have the potential to reach the highest level this season. Sea Karats is a full sister to Al Aasy, and ran on well late in the day to place third on debut, having been denied a clear run on a number of occasions.

A'SHAARI made her debut as a two-year-old here at Newmarket last August, striding clear in the final two furlongs to win a seven-furlong maiden with ease. Charlie Appleby's filly is a full sister to Wuheida, who won Grade Ones over a mile and nine furlongs and the Dahlia Stakes on her final career start.

Of the two, I think A'Shaari will be better suited to this trip, while Sea Karats looks more of a 12-14 furlong horse. I backed Wuheida when she won at the Breeders' Cup too, so I'm perfectly happy siding with her little sister.

Race 4 - Buttonhook Handicap Tips

I really fancy the chances of NOTATION, who held off stablemate Themaxwecan when going down by just a neck over two miles at Ripon last week.

The handicapper hasn't upped Mark Johnston's filly off her mark of 92, despite that run serving as her best effort yet on turf. On the all-weather, Notation clocked RPRs in excess of 100 on three occasions, and a win here could see Johnston look to land a bit of black-type later in the season.

Race 5 - Dahlia Stakes

This looks a wide-open race. I'm tempted to take an each-way punt on FREYJA, who will strip fitter for her reappearance at Nottingham, and could try to pinch this from the front.

Mark Johnston's filly won both her starts on the Rowley Mile last season, including a narrow Listed victory over some classy rivals in the Jane Seymour. Ben Curtis' mount found more for pressure in the Nottingham Oaks last week, going down by just a neck. Freyja could be hard to peg back if given an easy lead.

Race 6 - Tangerine Trees Conditions Stakes Tips

Given Dragon Symbols lack of experience on turf and what could prove to be a tricky draw in stall one, I'm going to side against the odds-on favourite and back MUKER, for Phillip Makin.

Muker showed plenty of promise at two, winning twice, placing in the Windsor Castle Stakes and a Group Three on the all-weather at Dundalk in August. Burning Cash managed to finish ahead of Muker when they met at Nottingham last month, but there was just a quarter of a length between them, and I think the track here at Hamilton will suit Makin's front-runner.
