ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 29th January

Race 1 - Paddy Power Cheltenham Countdown Podcast Handicap Chase Tips

I like backing runners who stay up with the pace in handicaps around Cheltenham and I'll be hoping that Sam Twiston-Davies will, again, give TORN AND FRAYED a positive ride.

Nigel Twiston-Davies' eight-year-old has run over the course-and-distance twice already this season, finishing a close third behind Annual Invictus in a handicap at the Showcase Meeting before following My Drogo home off level weights. Torn And Frayed never seemed to be travelling on heavy ground at Haydock last time out. Conditions on Saturday will be much more suitable and he still looks well-treated off a mark of 131.

Race 2 - Yorkshire Rose Mares' Hurdle Tips

I tipped ANNA BUNINA at Musselburgh last time out, having followed her into the places in last year's Scottish Champion Hurdle. John McConnell's raider drifted from 5s out to 10/1 before the off and ran accordingly, crossing the line 20-lengths adrift of classy geldings like Tommy's Oscar and Christopher Wood.

That was Anna Bunina's first start of the season, so she's entitled to come on for that outing. Switching to a more straight-forward track will help, as will the lack of moisture in the ground. Miranda will be a tough nut to crack, but I think Anna Bunina could be up to the task.

Race 3 - Cotswold Chase Tips

Race 4 - River Don Novices' Hurdle Tips

My Bobby Dazzler brings proven form over three miles to the table and is greatly respected. I just feel that UNANSWERED PRAYERS is the most talented horse in the field and I'm confident he'll see out this extended trip.

Chris Gordon's charge finished ahead of Blue Stello and Complete Unknown on his second hurdles outing at Warwick, only to be demoted to second by the Stewards. Josh Moore's mount then finished a clear second behind future Challow Hurdle winner Stage Star, before outstaying a budding three-mile chaser in Flemenstide at Wincanton last time out. I thought that was an excellent performance from Unanswered Prayers and he should see out this trip a little easier on decent ground, which he likes.

This race, along with the 1:55pm at Cheltenham, features in HollywoodBets' Cheltenham Festival Bank Builder offer. Sign up with HollywoodBets or log into your account, place a £10 bet on any runner in either or both of Saturday's qualifying races and you'll be credited with a £5 free bet for the 2022 Cheltenham Festival!

Race 5 - Cleeve Hurdle Tips

After Klassical Dream's shock defeat on Thursday, the stage is set for CHAMP to cement his position at the head of the Stayers' Hurdle market.

Nicky Henderson's star was much happier over the smaller obstacles on his reappearance at Ascot, where he ran out a comfortable winner of the Long Walk. Jonjo O'Neill Jnr's mount looked like he needed the run that day. If he has improved physically since then, I can't see him getting beaten this weekend.

Race 6 - Sky Bet Handicap Chase Tips

Fusil Raffles is the class act in this field, but top-weights have struggled here in recent years, with only two of the last 15 winners carrying 11-2 or more. One who I thought looked well-handicapped further down the betting was HURRICANE HARVEY, who won the Grade Two December Novices' Chase here at Doncaster in 2020.

Fergal O'Brien's eight-year-old ran a decent race on his reappearance at Chepstow and stayed on well to finish third in the Badger Beers Trophy at Wincanton off 136. Paddy Brennan held his mount up out the back at Cheltenham last time out, but that proved to be the wrong tactic as Commodore went off like the clappers and just kept on galloping, giving Hurricane Harvey no chance of eating into that advantage.

On the back of that 50-length defeat, the handicapper has dropped his mark by four pounds. We known he likes the track and goes well on good ground, so 20/1 seems like a generous price.

Race 7 - Classic Novices' Hurdle Tips

With all of the six runners here holding a Cheltenham Festival entry, this should make fascinating viewing. The giant that is Hillcrest will surely be seen to best effect over fences, but proved he was no mug over the smaller obstacles when beating I Am Maximus here at Cheltenham on New Years Day, and he deservedly tops the betting.

BALCO COASTAL will be out to avenge his stablemate's defeat that day. Although he hasn't been that impressive on either of his starts over hurdles so far, Balco Coastal has done enough to win them a shade cosily. This step up in trip should suit and he'll be getting five pounds from the market leader at the weights. I think Nicky Henderson's runner is the one to side with.
