ITV Racing Tips - Glorious Goodwood Day One Tips

Race 1 - Chesterfield Cup Handicap Tips

I'm going to take an each-way punt on LUCANDER in Tuesday's opener. Ralph Beckett's four-year-old won a big handicap on Ebor day at York last season, beating Sky Defender and Cockalorum comfortably, before staying on to finish second behind Majestic Dawn in the Cesarewich.

Following a good run on his reappearance, Lucander has been disappointing on his last two starts in the Royal Hunt Cup and the John Smiths Cup. Those performances have helped his rating drop down to 97, and he's got plenty of winning form on softer ground.

Race 2 - Vintage Stakes Tips

With question marks next to Berkshire Shadow's name regarding both trip and ground, I'm going to place my faith in LUSAIL, who held on gamely to win the July Stakes at Newmarket last time out.

Richard Hannon's charge had previously won a very good maiden over seven furlongs, beating several promising rivals under the burden of a penalty. He should relish this step back up in trip and boasts valuable experience running on juicy turf.

Race 3 - Lennox Stakes Tips

SPACE BLUES has won six of his eight starts over seven furlongs, finishing second on the other two occasions. William Buick's mount was unbeaten over this distance in 2020, a run that included an impressive two-length triumph in this race 12 months ago.

You simply have to back Space Blues, as he's currently the best exponent of seven furlongs in the sport. Soft ground and a fairly wide draw won't stop him running up to his true level.

Happy Power E/W3:00pm Unibet Lennox Stakes (Group 2) 7fGET 16/1 HERE
18+ only. Gambling can be addictive. Play responsibly.

I'm also going to have an each-way bet on HAPPY POWER, who beat Toro Strike in the Supreme Stakes over course-and-distance last season, before thrashing Pogo in the Godolphin Stakes.

Andrew Balding's five-year-old does his best work on soft ground, and ran a cracker two starts ago when fourth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Things didn't go to place last time out, but Happy Power can bounce back with a strong showing here.

Race 5 - Back To Goodwood Handicap Tips

Recon Mission E/W3:35pm Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1) 2mGET 16/1 HERE
18+ only. Gambling can be addictive. Play responsibly.

This race hasn't been kind to favourites during its short history, so I don't mind siding with an outsider and the one who captures my imagination is RECON MISSION.

Tony Carroll's five-year-old won well at Epsom on his return to turf racing in April, before suffering three-length defeats in the Epsom Dash and under 9-6 at Chester. Ray Dawson's claimer means Recon Mission has just 8-1 to shoulder on Tuesday, and first-time cheek-pieces could inspire a return to top form.
