Newmarket's popular Craven Meeting begins a day earlier this year. Tuesday's card at flat racing HQ features three pattern races, including the Nell Gwyn Stakes, which has often been used as a trial for the 1000 Guineas.

Here are my best betting tips for Tuesday's ITV races at Newmarket.

ITV Racing Tips - Tuesday 15th April

1:50pm Newmarket - Venatour Racing Handicap Tips

Woodhay Wonder got the better of Trefor in the three-year-old version of this handicap 12 months ago and both are respected on their reappearances. However, DARK THIRTY (6/1) returns to defend his crown on the back of a victory, and is still rated four pounds lower than last year.

Richard Hannon's five-year-old went on seven race losing streak following his narrow victory over Baldomero in this contest. Dark Thirty ran well to finish third at the Guineas meeting, but barely finished ahead of any rivals on his final six starts of the season.

Sean Levey's mount made the most of a much-reduced mark to score at Doncaster on his return to action. With Levey unable to take the ride, Ryan Moore jumps into the plate on Tuesday and he'll be pleased with a central draw next to two of the other potential pacemakers.

2:25pm Newmarket - Feilden Stakes Tips

I've backed a 50/1 outsider in the Nell Gwyn later this afternoon, and I like another roughie at a wild price here. LAW OF DESIGN (50/1) finished well to place third on his debut on the July Course in August, and went on to beat three decent rivals on soft ground at Ascot the following month.

Brian Meehan rolled the dice and ran Law Of Design in the Royal Lodge Stakes on his final juvenile start. Sean Levey's mount finished last of the seven after getting outpaced, but didn't run badly for most of the contest, he just got outpaced going into the dip and was eased in the closing stages.

I thought that was still a promising effort from this son of Sottsass, who should improve for this step up in trip. A bit of rain in the air won't harm his chances either and James Doyle, who guided Law Of Design to his sole victory thus far, jumps back into the saddle.

3:00pm Newmarket - Earl Of Sefton Stakes Tips

It's hard to side against OTTOMAN FLEET (13/8), who has returned from Meydan to win this Group Three the past two years. Charlie Appleby's six-year-old made it three wins from four starts on the Rowley Mile when beating Poker Face in 2023, and saw off Astro King to defend his title 12 months ago.

Ottoman Fleet travelled straight to America after winning this race in 2023 and '24, collecting some lesser Graded races before placing in Grade One races. Appleby's six-year-old finished fourth on his two starts at Meydan in January, but he's yet to win in eight starts on Dubai soil and always seems to save his best for the Rowley Mile.
