ITV Racing Tips on May 16th - Top tips on Dante day at York

The namesake race of the entire meeting, the Dante Stakes headlines Thursday's card at York. Along with that important Epsom Derby trial, ITV Racing viewers will enjoy an excellent renewal of the Middleton Stakes, the Westow Stakes and a couple of lucrative handicaps.

Here are my best betting tips for Thursday's ITV races.

ITV Racing Tips - Thursday 16th May

2:15pm York - Lindum York Handicap Tips

All of the last eight winners of this sprint handicap returned an SP of 10/1 or shorter, so it's not a race where outsiders tend to prosper. Nevertheless, I'm happy to take a punt on MONDAMMEJ (25/1), whose slipped to a career-low rating of just 81 following a series of disappointing performances.

This time last year, Anthony Brittain's seven-year-old finished a close fourth behind Regional in this contest, before recording two runner-up finishes off 96 in subsequent weeks. Mondammej was busy throughout the all-weather season, registering RPRs in the low 90s on several occasions. While his most recent runs offer little encouragement, if Monndammej can bounce back to something like his best, he should be a massive player with just 8-2 on his back.

2:45pm York - Hambleton Handicap Tips

Like our opener, fancied horses tend to do well in this handicap, with seven of the last nine winners returning a single-figure SP. If the ground was on the softer side of good, then Look Back Smiling and Navagio would be on my shortlist, but given the current going, DUTCH DECOY (7/1) has to be in with a shout again.

Charlie Johnston's star hit the crossbar five times during the first half of last season before finally landing the Lettergold Handicap during the July Festival. Dutch Decoy has gone close on his two most recent runs at Newmarket, finishing a nose behind Hafeet Alain in April and second to the impressive Liberty Lane in the Suffolk Stakes. Joe Fanning's mount remains on a thoroughly winnable mark of 94 and his drawn in stall six looks ideal.

I also fancy a punt on SYMBOL OF LIGHT (25/1) at a much longer price. Julie Camacho's five-year-old has only run twice on turf, and one of those runs came over 10 furlongs on soft ground. Over a mile on the all-weather, Ryan Sexton's mount boasts an excellent record and this course and distance should suit. This five-pound lower turf mark is there to be exploited.

3:15pm York - Middleton Fillies' Stakes Tips

This cracking renewal of the Middleton could go any number of ways. Free Wind returns to defend her crown, but she has several progressive four-year-olds to contend. Bluestocking, Sapphire Seas and Infinite Cosmos could progress massively this year. Caernarfon and Novus have enough back form to warrant their places in the field. I can't split them.
