Odds, key trends and best bets for the 2025 Lanzarote Hurdle

A thrilling afternoon of ITV Racing on Saturday has already been ruined by the weather gods, with Wetherby and Warwick abandoning their Premier Meetings. Hopefully, Kempton's card will survive and, with Pic D'Orhy set to go off at 1/3 for the Silviniaco Conti Chase, the Lanzarote Hurdle will play the starring role on Saturday's coverage.

I've taken a look through the latest betting for this premier handicap and listed some key recurring trends, before picking out my best betting tips.

Backing unexposed, lightly-raced hurdlers is clearly the way to go in the Lanzarote. Five novices have claimed victory in the past decade and a half, and we've seen several winners - including last year's champion Jay Jay Reilly - win this contest having jumped fences earlier in the season.

Four-time winner, Nicky Henderson will saddle favourite Impose Toi, who heads the weights off his new mark of 141. Punta Del Esta will be the main challenger for Dan Skelton, who'll be looking for his third successive victory in this famous handicap.

2025 Lanzarote Hurdle Tip 1 - Knight Of Allen

I'm going to back two against the field in Saturday's feature - if Kempton survives an inspection. The first is KNIGHT OF ALLEN (8/1), who I quite fancied on his debut in the Grade Two Triumph Trial at Cheltenham last November, but David Noonan's mount was carried out at the opening obstacle.

Knight Of Allen then finished second to Liari in a Listed 4yo Hurdle at Aintree before rounding off an impressive first season with an easy maiden win at Chepstow. Jane Williams' five-year-old made his reappearance in another novice hurdle at Uttoxeter in October, and wasn't beaten far when third to the talented Wade Out, who was getting five pounds at the weights.

Williams' charge finished third again on his handicap hurdle debut at Haydock. David Noonan held Knight Of Allen up on the rail that day and made strong late inroads to finish three lengths adrift of the impressive winner, Steel Ally. The Williams family have an affinity with the Lanzarote Hurdle, having won it on three occasions and this seems like the ideal time to step Knight Of Allen beyond two miles.

2025 Lanzarote Hurdle Tip 2 - Il Va De Soi

IL VA DE SOI (9/1) is a similar price to Knight Of Allen, but I do feel he boasts outstanding credentials in this competitive renewal.

Harry Derham's seven-year-old failed to win any of his first eight starts in point-to-points, bumpers and over hurdles. Alice Stevens' mount broke his duck with a narrow victory at Chepstow in April, before following up with a much more impressive victory on his final outing at Uttoxeter three weeks later.

Il Va De Soi was a huge drifter before his reappearance at Cheltenham, but still managed to run a solid race, keeping on after a good jump at the last to finish a close fifth. Stevens has been replaced in the saddle by Harry Cobden for Saturday's assignment and a run of three winners and five placed runners since December 29th suggests that the problems Derham was having with his gallop are firmly behind him.

Knight Of Allen and Il Va De Soi are our two against the field for the 2025 Lanzarote Hurdle.
