Paisley Park and Thyme Hill met for the first time at Newbury in the Long Distance Hurdle. Thyme Hill was well-backed on the day, and narrowly came out on top, with Paisley Park running a fine race back in second.

A heart issue explained Paisley Park's limp performance in the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham, and his performance at Newbury was commendable considering what he's been through during the off-season. Emma Lavelle's former star looked to be needing the run that day, and was giving his younger rival three-pounds at the weights, so you can see why some bookies are favouring the 2018 Long Walk winner.

The only defeat Thyme Hill has suffered over hurdles came in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham last year, where he was checked at a crucial stage on the run to the line, and the form of that Grade One is working out well. Philip Hobbs is confident there's more to come from his Stayers' Hurdle contender, but a right-handed track is known territory.

Main Fact extended his incredible winning streak to nine races at Haydock last month, winning the Grade Three Betfair Exchange Hurdle, and he will make his first appearance in a Grade One on Saturday.

Roksana looked as good as ever when winning the West Yorkshire Hurdle on her return to action, Dan Skelton's mare is the only other runner who can be found sitting on a single-figure price.

Last year's winner, The Worlds End hasn't been seen since pulling up at Auteuil back in October, but could make his first start for Olly Murphy on Saturday. Younevercall also has previous in this race, having finished eighth behind Paisley Park in 2018.

The Jam Man proved himself incredibly well handicapped over fences when winning the Porterstown Handicap earlier this season. The team sees him more of a hurdler, but he seems more of a handicapper to me than a Grade One performer.

It's lovely to see 12-year-old Thistlecrack back out on the track, and the 2015 winner has to be respected. Third Wind and Portrush Ted also run, but connections have sent them here merely to keep their handicap mark down.

Thyme Hill has age on his side, and he could have more progression left in the tank. Paisley Park will have come on from that run at Newbury, and he boasts useful form here at Ascot, having won this race two years ago.

I'm finding it impossible to decide between the two. Luckily, ROKSANA can be found at an appealing each-way price, so I'm going to select Dan Skelton's mare as my Long Walk Hurdle tip.

I've got a big soft spot for Roksana. She was my selection the year she won the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and the Skelton's celebrations following their first Grade One win were wonderful to see.

After a so-so season last term, Skelton decided to target staying trips with Roksana, during what could be her final season on the track. Skelton's eight-year-old had a seven-pound mares allowance on her side in the West Yorkshire Hurdle, but she was by far the best hurdler in that race, beating a future chase winner in Next Destination by eight lengths.

Once again, Roksana will be gaining half-a-stone on her male counterparts. She may not have run that well here at Ascot last season, but I'm confident three miles is her ideal trip now, and she has the class to challenge the market leaders.

All eyes will be on Paisley Park and Thyme Hill, but Roksana has the quality to contend in staying races at this level, especially with that sex allowance on her side. 15/2 is a cracking each-way price.
