The Saturday after the Cheltenham Festival is traditionally headlined by the Midlands Grand National. Many of the sport's finest stayers have travelled to Uttoxeter and claimed victory in this grueling handicap, including The Thinker and Synchronised, who both went on to win the Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

Knockanore was slapped with a ten-pound rating hike following his shock victory in the Eider at Newcastle, but still tops the early betting for Saturday's feature. Sara Bradstock will be hoping to see some rain before top-weight Mr Vango takes to the track. Apple Away also sits prominently in the betting, despite her position at the top of the weights.

2025 Midlands Grand National Tips - Passing Well

PASSING WELL (20/1) has continued to progress this season and enters Saturday's Midlands Grand National carrying a lovely racing weight.

Jamie Snowden's eight-year-old is yet to win this season, but has bumped into several progressive sorts. El Rio and Hoe Joly Smoke have both won again since beating Passing Well at Sandown. Gavin Sheehan's mount ran well on his first start around Wincanton in December, and was only beaten a head by Sporting Ace in the Surrey National at Lingfield.

Passing Well was ridden cold to get the marathon trip in the Eider. Knockanore proved far too good under just 10-4, but Snowden's eight-year-old stuck to the task well under 11-5 to finish a staying-on third.

Gavin Sheehan's mount will only have to shoulder 10-11 this weekend and Snowden's horses are currently in fantastic form. Passing Well won his maiden hurdle at this venue and looks a strong contender for the places at least.
