The Big Trend

The Prestige Stakes (Leg 2 - 13:50) is a race which tends to go to the top of the market. In the last ten years, no horse with an SP greater than 5/1 has won this race. In fact, in the last two renewals no horse at a double-figure dividend has even placed, so it’s firmly focusing our attention on the major players here.

HELLO YOU can get the job done. He’s been running well in decent company this year, finishing a good second in the Albany before placing in the Duchess of Cambridge. She was unlucky at York last time, having to patiently wait for her run but stayed on really well when it came. On that evidence the step up to 7f should suit.

Placepot Banker

ARATUS (Leg 3 - 14:25) is a really exciting prospect for Clive Cox and heads here in search of the four-time. He won with plenty of authority on his reappearance before scoring on handicap debut at Newbury. He travelled like a good horse into the race from off the pace and when hitting top gear wasn’t for stopping. Eased before the line and aided by a strong-finishing runner-up, he’s only up 4lb for that victory and that looks like a rise that should be well within his compass.

Outsiders to Consider

Benbatl is likely to be really popular in the feature but we think that this could play out perfectly for DUKE OF HAZZARD (Leg 5 - 15:35). He ran a huge race in the Strensall stakes last time and you can bet he’ll be giving it his all again here. The return to a mile should suit and this 5yo loves it round here, having won three of his five races at the track. This one needs a really strong gallop to aim at and with Benbatl and Brentford Hope likely to want to carve out the fractions, he should get it.

He’s got a fair bit to find at the weights, but CLASSIC LORD (Leg 4 - 15:00) remains unexposed stepping up in grade. A St Leger entry suggests connections think a lot of him and his Sandown victory certainly left the visual impression of a good horse. He and the runner-up left their rivals behind that day and this one showed a game attitude to outbattle his rival. He could take a step forward here.

Torpedo Leg

There could be a fair few tickets exiting at the final hurdle. It looks like Sky Power is likely to go off favourite but with a long absence to overcome and a bit to prove on this surface, he’s worth taking on. With only two place up for grabs, we’ve picked out two against him.

ZULU GIRL (Leg 6 - 16:10)  has been in brilliant form recently and comes here in search of the hat-trick. The handicapper may have caught up with her for win purposes but she’ll be there or thereabouts. SWEET REWARD shouldn’t be written off either. A bit disappointing last time out, if he can get back to his second here on his penultimate start he should be bang there.
