Flat racing fans are in for a midweek treat on Thursday evening, as Sandown Park stages their popular Brigadier Gerard Stakes evening. Along with that thrilling Group Three, Sandown's card features three further pattern races and the classy Whitsun Cup Handicap.

Here are our best betting tips at Sandown on Thursday.

Sandown Tips - Thursday 23rd May

6:37pm Sandown - National Stakes Tips

A low draw can prove tricky on the sprint track at Sandown. Hawaiian won nicely on debut at Newbury and the form of that maiden has been boosted several times since. Sean Levey's mount did stumble out of the gates that day and another slow start from stall two could put the firm favourite in an unfavourably position.

Dominic Ffrench-Davis runs two form Amo Racing, with David Egan partnering with Enchanting Empress again. Egan's mount touched off ROCK HUNTER (5/1) when the two met at Ascot, but I was most impressed by Silvestre De Sousa's mount, who battled back after being passed to force a photo finish. Rock Hunter won well at Chantilly on debut and only boosted his reputation at Ascot. He appeals most to me at 5/1.

7:07pm Sandown - Henry II Stakes Tips

Sweet William came there looking like the probable winner on his return to action at Ascot, only to find little in the closing stages and eventually finish third. I was going to put that limp finish down to ring-rust, given it was his first start of the season. Yet, the Gosden's have added a visor for this outing at Sandown, suggesting that fitness wasn't the issue.

CAIUS CHORISTER (9/4) battled bravely in the Sagaro Stakes, passing the floundering Trueshan and Sweet William before coming up a head short of Coltrane. Owner, Clive Washbourn suggested his five-year-old was a lively outsider for the Ascot Gold Cup following that performance and the team has opted to get another run into their top stayer before heading to the Royal Meeting.

Rossa Ryan's mount caught the eye when finishing a luckless sixth in the Ebor in the summer, before rounding off his campaign with an excellent Group Three triumph on French soil. David Menuisier's horses are going great guns at the moment and remains open to improvement over staying distances.

7:37pm Sandown - Brigadier Gerard Stakes Tips

Royal Rhyme is the best horse in the race, but would ideally want the ground to be softer. Isle Of Jura progressed brilliantly out in Bahrain over the winter and should be better suited by the going, but George Scott's hasn't had a winner for 18 days and his horses have been running poorly.

Like Royal Rhyme, Certain Lad and Miss Cantik would prefer softer ground, and I'd be disappointed if Elegancia was good enough to win a Group Three on her reappearance. I won't be backing anything.

8:12pm Sandown - Heron Stakes Tips

Ice Max steps up to pattern company, following two impressive handicap wins over a mile. Kikkuli got off the mark on his reappearance in a maiden and Ryan Moore's mount is expected to kick on from that victory.

I liked REMAADD'S (5/1) reappearance run in the Classic Trial here at Sandown. Tom Marquand's mount travelled enthusiastically on his return to action, and although he wasn't able to eat into Arabian Crown's advantage, William Haggas will have been pleased to see his colt hang on to finish third.

Remaadd's juvenile form looks decent and I'm expecting the form of that Classic Trial to work out well when Arabian Crown is seen again. Dropping back to a mile should suit Marquand's mount, who has already proved that he will handle this track.

8:42pm Sandown - Whitsun Cup Handicap Tips

Six of the last eight renewals of this handicap have gone to four-year-olds and Crack Shot remains open to plenty of further progress. Navagio is a horse I'm still keen to follow, but I worry whether the ground might be a little too quick for his liking.

At the prices, I'll have an each-way nibble on BLUELIGHT BAY (12/1). Eve Johnson Houghton's four-year-old came from the rear to win at Salisbury last term and ran respectable races here at Sandown and Ascot in the summer, before being drawn badly on his final start in the Cambridgeshire.

Charlie Bishop's mount finished well on his reappearance at Kempton, but was too keen at Ascot last time out, where he was prominently early and faded. Bluelight Bay likes to be held up for a late challenge and a low draw could force Bishop to take a lead and attempt to pounce late. He's well-treated off a mark of 87.
