The opening day of Cheltenham's November Meeting is headlined by the Shloer Chase. This two-mile Grade Two has been the starting point of the season for many of the sport's finest chasers and the betting for this year's contest is dominated by Jonbon, who claimed an impressive victory 12 months ago.
Here's our free guide to the 2024 Shloer Chase, including our best betting tips.
2024 Shloer Chase Odds
Name | Odds |
---|---|
Jonbon | 4/9 |
Edwardstone | 7/2 |
Boothill | 7/1 |
Unexpected Party | 12/1 |
2024 Shloer Chase Runners
This will be the sixth year in a row that the Shloer Chase has attracted four runners or less. A truly awful statistic for Cheltenham racecourse.
Jonbon claimed his one and only win at Cheltenham in this race 12 months ago, when thrashing Edwardstone and two other rivals. Nicky Henderson's star will again make his reappearance in this Grade Two and the bookies are expecting a similarly emphatic performance.
Edwardstone renews rivalries with the market leader. Alan King has withdrawn his star chaser when the ground has been good on a number of occasions, so his participation is far from guaranteed.
Boothill, on the other hand, has shown a liking for decent ground, so Harry Fry will be happy to hand his nine-year-old a first start at Prestbury Park. Dan Skelton's Grand Annual winner Unexpected Party, who was beaten in a Graduation Chase at Carlisle on Monday, completes the field.
2024 Shloer Chase Tips
There's nothing to be gained from backing Jonbon at 4/9, and that price could shrink even more is Edwardstone doesn't take his chance on Friday.
If I had to back one runner, it would be BOOTHILL (7/1). Harry Fry's star has no Cheltenham experience, but his reappearance record is strong and he likes decent ground. He could be there to capitalise if Jonbon - whose three career defeats have all come at Prestbury Park - doesn't show up on the day.
