Navan Tips - Sunday 8th November

Race 1 - Novice Hurdle Tips

Eskylane wasn't that impressive on debut, especially considering he carries a price of 8/11 to post. While he clearly has more to give based on that effort, I'm more inclined to side with overlooked stablemate WIDE RECEIVER.

Gordon Elliott's charge was also backed into odds-on favouritism for his debut run over hurdles at Punchestown. For the most part, Keith Donoghue's mount jumped and travelled well. However, two mistakes at the final two flights opened the door for Baptism Of Fire, and Wide Receiver looked a tired horse as he crossed the line.

When he won a bumper here in December of last year, Wide Reciver looked all speed to me. A proper two-miler. I'm glad to see he's been dropped back to the minimum distance today and, if he can tidy up his jumping, he's perfectly capable of winning this race.

Race 2 - Lismullen Hurdle Tips

I picked out Sire Du Berlais as a horse to follow with the 2021 Stayers' Hurdle in mind, so I'm not surprised to see Gordon Elliott's dual Pertemps Final winner stepped up into Graded company.

That being said, Sire Du Berlais is a proper three-miler, who does his best work at the business end of the race. All of his wins have come in the spring time too, so there's plenty of reason to side against the market leader.

Supasundae often needs the run too, so I'm going to take a punt on RONALD PUMP. Matthew Smith's stable star was last seen finishing second in the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham. Ronald Pump beat a future Grade Three winner in a chase over this trip on his first start of last season, and can secure a first Graded win over hurdles on Sunday.

Race 3 - Troytown Handicap Tips

You can see why THE JAM MAN is favourite for this big handicap. Ronan McNally's seven-year-old is a two-time winner in chases over this distance, and beat Tout Est Permis in a three-mile handicap hurdle here at Navan on his first start of last season.

The Jam Man runs today off a mark that's 14 pounds short of his rating over hurdles, and Paul Townend's mount will be sharp after some good runs on the flat during the early weeks of autumn.

Elwood E/W1:35pm Navan Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade B) 3mGET 16/1 HERE

I was lucky enough to tip the first and second past the post in this race 12 months ago, so I'm also going to take a punt on ELWOOD at a big price. Elwood is one of nine in the race for Gordon Elliott, and Sean Flanagan takes the ride. He secured some decent results as a novice last season, despite making plenty of jumping mistakes.

Elliott deemed Elwood good enough to run in the Ultima at Cheltenham last season - where he fell early on - so there's plenty of reason to presume he's open to improvement off his current mark of 135.

Race 4 - Fortria Chase Tips

Not the greatest race to finish with, from a betting stand-point anyway. I'm a massive fan of A PLUS TARD. He's one of my horses to follow for the 2021 Champion Chase, and I'll be backing him for that two miler as soon as the NRNB markets are opened. I'll be expecting Henry De Bromhead's star to get off the mark for the season in good style here - even under his Grade One-winners penalty.
