The first Grade One race for two-mile chasers takes place at Sandown on Saturday, where the Tingle Creek Chase will be played out in front of a capacity crowd. Many of jump racing's finest two milers have won this great race, and the winner often goes on to run in the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

2023 Tingle Creek Tips - Haddex Des Obeaux
With Captain Guinness being prepped for Leopardstown's Christmas Festival, there's next to no chance that Jonbon will go off at a backable price. Nicky Henderson's star beat his elders to win the Celebration Chase here at Sandown as a novice in the spring and looked better than ever when thrashing Edwardstone and Nube Negra in the Shloer Chase on his reappearance.
Alan King is looking to step Edwardstone up in distance this season. This seems sensible, as his stable star does seem to have lost a little of his two-mile speed. Nube Negra is always at his best first time out and the soft ground at Sandown won't be to his liking.
Boothill has secured back-to-back handicap victories this season. However, Harry Fry's star couldn't lay a glove on Jonbon when the two met last year in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase and the ratings say that Jonbon has improved eight pounds more than his rival since that encounter.
The only rival to Jonbon who remains open to significant improvement is HADDEX DES OBEAUX (16/1). Gary Moore's rising star relished soft ground at Warwick last season and looked set to make a winning reappearance at Cheltenham, before an untimely fall at the tricky second-last.
Gary is yet to confirm whether Nial Houlihan or David Noonan will be filling in for the injured Jamie Moore. Noonan has been confirmed in the saddle of Le Patron in the Henry VIII, so he seems to be the front-runner. Whoever might be in the saddle, I'm keen to back Haddex Des Obeaux each way, or in the "betting without Jonbon" special market.
