As British fans focus on Greatwood Hurdle day at Cheltenham, Irish eyes will look to Navan on Sunday as the County Meath racecourse stages their popular Troytown Handicap Chase day. Many top-class chasers have won the Troytown, and a quality field looks set to be declared ahead of Sunday's renewal.
We've taken a look through the betting for the 2024 Troytown and picked out our top two betting tips.

Gordon Elliott has won the Troytown six times in the last ten years, while also saddling nine placed runners in that period. You can hardly say that Elliott targets this contest, given that he's averaged eight entrants in the last ten renewals, but sheer weight of numbers usually results in a good return for the man from County Meath.
His big gun this year is American Mike, who beat Fact To File on his chasing debut at this meeting 12 months ago. Elliott's seven-year-old went on to win the Ten Up Chase, again here at Navan, and certainly looks well-treated off this mark of 145. American Mike does, however, tend to blow hot and cold and I'm not sure good ground is what he craves.
2024 Troytown Handicap Chase Tip 1 - The Short Go
Last year, Coko Beach became just the second horse this century to win the Troytown with an SP longer than 12/1. Historically, it's not a very good race for the bookmakers.
Henry De Bromhead won this handicap with Chris's Dream in 2019 and he's got two sitting prominently in the market, including THE SHORT GO (9/1) who returns to Ireland on the back of an excellent second to stablemate Senior Chief over at Cheltenham.
Senior Chief was positioned just behind the front runners at Cheltenham, meaning he was perfectly placed to strike when Broadway Boy gave way. In contrast, Jordan Gainford held The Short Go up well off the pace and the two had to make up an enormous amount of ground just to get involved.
De Bromhead's seven-year-old has some decent hurdles form to his name and is yet to finish outside the first four in his four chase starts. The Short Go ran up to an RPR of 138 at Cheltenham and enters this year's Troytown at the bottom of the weights off his Irish mark of 128.

2024 Troytown Handicap Chase Tip 2 - Lisnamult Lad
Given that he may end up accounting for half the field, it would be sensible to back at least one of Gordon Elliott's runners. However, five of his entrants will be making their reappearance, three are woefully out of form, Zanahiyr could struggle under top-weight and I don't think Stuzzikini is classy enough. Chemical Energy is the only Elliott runner I would consider backing, American Mike aside, and he's a little too short in the market for my liking.
I do think that LISNAMULT LAD (16/1) has been underestimated. Like The Short Go, Ian Donoghue's seven-year-old was last seen running at Cheltenham's Showcase Meeting, where he made all to land a two-and-a-half mile novices handicap.
Lisnamult Lad has taken to chasing well, finishing fourth twice in Ireland before that victory at Cheltenham. Donoghue's novice likes good ground and saw out three miles both over hurdles and in the point-to-point field. He should be nice and fit, fitter than many might be anyway, and he'll be carrying a lovely light racing weight. He appeals from an each-way standpoint.
