With the 2024/25 National Hunt season now in full swing, our Eye On Cheltenham series has returned!

Each week, we'll highlight the most impressive winners and see how their victories have altered the Cheltenham Festival betting markets. Here's week one of our Eye On Cheltenham 2025 series, covering last week's meetings at Down Royal and Wetherby, and some notable movers from earlier in the season.

Eye On Cheltenham 2025 - Week 1

Envoi Allen

In a thrilling finish to the first Grade One of the new season, Envoi Allen got the better of Hewick to land the Ladbrokes Champion Chase. Henry De Bromhead's star was then cut from 33s into 14/1 for the 2025 Ryanair Chase by bet365, who also shortened Hewick into 33/1 for the Gold Cup.

Found A Fifty

Arkle runner-up, Found A Fifty returned to action with a win in the Bottlegreen Chase at Down Royal on Saturday. Gordon Elliott's star is now best-priced at 14/1 for the Ryanair and 33/1 for the 2025 Champion Chase.

Flooring Porter

Gavin Cromwell's star ran out a hugely impressive winner of the Kerry National on his seasonal comeback at Listowel. Cromwell has his eyes set on the Grand National, but said that his former two-time Stayers' Hurdle winner could return to that Championship race first, causing most bookies to cut Flooring Porter in from 40s to 20/1 to win the feature on day three of the Cheltenham Festival.

Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico made all of the running under top-weight to land the Sodexo Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Ascot on Saturday. Kim Bailey's star, who won the Ultima in 2024, was then cut from 66s into 33/1 for the 2025 Gold Cup by bookmakers Unibet.

The Real Whacker

Patrick Neville's stable star bounced back to winning ways at Wetherby on Saturday, defeating Bravemansgame to land the Charlie Hall Chase. The Real Whacker was a 100/1 outsider for the Gold Cup prior to that victory, but most firms now list the former Brown Advisory winner at 50/1.

Romeo Coolio

Gordon Elliott, again, enjoyed another fine meeting at Down Royal this weekend. One of his most impressive winners was Champion Bumper runner-up Romeo Coolio, who jumped well when making a winning hurdling debut. Elliott's star is now the early 12/1 second-favourite for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, while also receiving quotes of 16/1 for both the Gallagher and the Albert Bartlett.

Valgrand

At Cheltenham's Showcase Meeting, Dan Skelton's Valgrand ran out an impressive winner of the Sharp Novices' Hurdle. Valgrand then entered the betting for the 2025 Supreme Novices' Hurdle at an opening price of 40/1.

The New Lion

Another Skelton novice to impress early this season was The New Lion, who bolted up in a maiden hurdle at Chepstow in October. Skelton's youngster was immediately cut into 25/1 for the Gallagher Novices' Hurdle by bet365, while also receiving quotes for the Supreme and the Albert Bartlett.

The Yellow Clay

Gordon Elliott's weekend at Down Royal opened with victory in the 2m5f novices hurdle on Friday, where The Yellow Clay came out on top. Elliott's novice is now 20/1 to win the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, and 25/1 for the shorter Gallagher Novices' Hurdle.

Brighterdaysahead

Having been pointed at the Mares' Hurdle at the start of the season, Brighterdaysahead made a winning return to action in the Bottlegreen Hurdle at Down Royal on Friday. Gordon Elliott's mare is the early 2/1 favourite for the 2025 Mares' Hurdle with Boylesports. After the race, Elliott did claim that a tilt at the Champion Hurdle was possible, causing Boylesports to cut Brighterdaysahead into 16/1 for the Championship race on day one.

Liam Swagger

Liam Swagger made it two wins from two starts over hurdles for James Owen when winning the Listed Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby last week. Owen's recruit was then cut into 25/1 for the 2025 Triumph Hurdle.

Firefox

Elliott was pleased to see Firefox make a winning start to life over fences at Down Royal on Friday. Firefox is now the 5/1 second-favourite for the 2025 Arkle, with many firms quoting odds of 33/1 for the longer Brown Advisory Novices' Chase.

Inthepocket

Having missed most of last season through injury, Inthepocket returned to action with a bang at Wexford last month, thrashing Royal Bond winner Farren Glory by 15 lengths in a Beginners Chase. Henry De Bromhead's star is now a general 8/1 shot for the 2025 Arkle Challenge Trophy, with bet365 offering a best price of 10/1.

L'Eau Du Sud

Dan Skelton's fine start to the season continued this week, with L'Eau Du Sud making a winning chasing debut at Stratford on Thursday. Skelton will likely have one eye on the Grand Annual, but that didn't stop bet365 from cutting L'Eau Du Sud into 20/1 for the 2025 Arkle.
