Longchamp Tips - Saturday 2nd October

Race 1 - Prix Chaudenay Tips

Charlie Appleby has enjoyed a fantastic season with his three-year-olds and it's hard to side against Manobo, who routed the opposition when winning a Listed race at Saint-Cloud last time out. Kemari is a big player for the stable too, but for me, the value bet here is TASHKHAN for Ben Robinson and Brian Ellison.

Barring a poor run on fast ground at Royal Ascot, Tashkhan has been very consistent this season. Ellison's star has won two classy handicaps at Haydock, comfortably beating Summer's Knight and Chalk Stream, who're now rated 97 and 105 respectively. Tashkhan caught the eye when staying on to finish a close fifth in the Melrose Handicap last time out. With every bookmaker offering three places, he looks a good each-way option at 14/1.

Race 2 - Prix Daniel Wildenstein Tips

The Revenant won this race comfortably on his first start of last season, and went on to score in the QEII on Champions Day. Francois-Henri Graffard's six-year-old has been freshened up for the defence of this crown, but he wasn't at his best on either of his two starts back in the autumn and looks a little too short in the market for me.

I'll take the favourite on with VICTOR LUDORUM, who comes into this Group Two on the back of a strong third behind the unbeaten Baaeed in the Prix du Moulin. Andre Fabre's former French Guineas winner was handed a career-high RPR of 119 for that performance, and he'll be dropping down in grade on Saturday. He should give The Revenant a run for his money.

Race 3 - Prix du Cadran Tips

I've bet against Stradivarius on numerous occasions during his stellar career, and I've rarely made a profit. However, with the ground likely to come up very soft, I can't be backing John Gosden's seven-year-old. I'd be surprised if he ran, to tell you the truth.

Princess Zoe will attempt to defend her crown and she's greatly respected. However, ground conditions are set to come up firmly in TRUESHAN'S favour and I'll be siding with Alan King's star stayer.

Trueshan bolted up in the Long Distance Cup when the ground was terrible on Champions Day last year, and hasn't run since grinding out a first Group One victory in the Goodwood Cup. A 67-day absence isn't a worry though, as Trueshan often runs well fresh and King will have his stable star primed to run a big race on Saturday.

Race 4 - Prix de Royallieu Tips

Last year's Prix Chaudenay winner, Valia looks solid at the head of the market. She does, however, have several dangerous rivals to contend with, so I'm going to take an each-way punt on the improving GLENARTNEY in this open-looking contest.

Following a strange run in the Musidora Stakes on her reappearance, Ed Walker's filly recovered well following a slow start to finish third behind Aleas and Title in the Listed Glasgow Stakes. Another slow start put Glenartney on the backfoot immediately in the Galtres Stakes last time out, but Kevin Stott's mount stayed on well to finish a close third again, despite veering violently left whenever her jockey used his whip.

The form of those races looks very strong and Walker's filly did brilliantly to place in both, despite still looking a little green and awkward. Glenartney won on heavy ground as a juvenile and this further step up in distance could really suit.

Race 5 - Prix Dollar Tips

Another open contest to finish off a cracing day of racing, with most bookmakers going 4/1 the field. Magny Cours and Dubai Honour are respected, but the one who attracts me most at an each-way price is PATRICK SARSFIELD.

Following solid runner-up finishes in the Orby Stakes and the Wolferton, Joseph O'Brien threw his four-year-old into the Irish Champion Stakes. With Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe favourite Tarnawa, St Mark's Basilica and Poetic Flare lining up in opposition, Declan McDonogh decided the best tactic was to go hard from the front. Sadly, that plan didn't bear fruit, as Patrick Sarsfield was well-beaten back in fourth.

That was, however, an exceptional race - probably the race of the season so far. This represents a distinct drop in class and that runner-up finish behind Skaletti - who's won multiple Group Ones since - in last year's renewal of the Dollar puts Patrick Sarsfield right in the picture.
