Longchamp tips on September 30th - Four big races covered on Prix du Cadran day

Two Group One races will take place on day one of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Saturday's viewers will enjoy the Prix du Cadran and the Prix de Royallieu, with quality fields also confirmed for both the Prix Daniel Wildenstein and the Prix Dollar.

Here are our best bets for the four pattern races on day one of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting.

Longchamp Tips - Saturday 30th September


Race 1 - Prix du Cadran Tips


Trueshan returned to action with an impressive win in the Doncaster Cup last time out. Alan King's star won this in 2021, but Trueshan has had injury problems since then and 15 days is a quick turnaround for a horse who hasn't been the most robust.

With Ryan Moore riding at Newmarket on Saturday, Frankie Dettori will jump aboard EMILY DICKINSON (7/4). Aidan O'Brien's filly has bolted up on the two occasions she has encountered her favoured soft ground this season, whilst also running with credit on quicker going in both the Ascot Gold Cup and the Doncaster Cup. 

Saturday's ground will certainly be to Emily Dickinson's liking and she can follow in the footsteps of stablemate Kyprios, who produced an astonishing performance to win this race 12 months ago.

Race 2 - Prix de Royallieu Tips


Sumo Sam bids for her third high-profile victory on the bounce. Jamie Spencer's mount only knows one way of running, and that's hard and fast from the front. Sumo Sam wasn't caught at either Goodwood or Doncaster, but I wouldn't bank on her repeating those front-running heroics for a third time in the space of two months.

Eight of the last 11 winners of this Group One ran in either the Prix de Pomone or the Prix Vermeille last time out and the form of both races is well advertised. The one who intrigues me most is RUE BOISSONADE (10/1), who made good late progress to place fourth behind Warm Heart and Melo Melo in the Vermeille.

Mikel Delzangles filly thrashed an odds-on favourite of William Haggas' to win the Prix de Malleret here in June and did very well in the Vermeille, considering it was her first Group One start and she went into it on the back of a two-month absence. There's stacks of stamina on the dam's side of Rue Boissonade's breeding and she certainly shapes like she'll improve for going beyond 12 furlongs.

Race 3 - Prix Daniel Wildenstein Tips


Isaac Shelby and Poker Face like to be ridden positively. Fast Raaj and Colombier have also done their best work from the front, so this race could set itself up perfectly for a fast closer.

WITCH HUNTER (10/1) certainly fits that description. Jamie Spencer's mount flew home from the rear to win a handicap at Royal Ascot and came with a late charge to land the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury last time out. Eight furlongs on soft ground might be a bit of a stretch, but if Witch Hunter can get into a nice rhythm from stall two, he should be able to utilise that potent finishing kick.

Race 4 - Qatar Prix Dollar Tips


Since two defeats behind Big Rock earlier in the season, HORIZON DORE (2/1) has taken giant strides forward. Patrice Cottier's three-year-old won nicely on his first start over ten furlongs, before recovering after an early stumble to land the Prix Eugene Adam.

Horizon Dore then carried a penalty to victory in the Prix du Prince Orange, clocking a hugely impressive RPR of 121 in claiming that cosy success. If he's progressed again for that victory, which is entirely possible, then Mickael Barzalona's mount could take plenty of beating.
