2024 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Result - Bluestocking hands Ralph Beckett first Arc win

The eyes of the horse racing world were fixed on Longchamp this afternoon, as 16 of flat racing's finest took part in the 2024 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Prix Niel winner, Sosie was solid at the head of the betting, as former favourite Look De Vega took a walk in the betting during the build-up. With Aidan O'Brien banging in six winners over the first two days, Ryan Moore's mount Los Angeles was backed into favouritism for the 2024 Arc, but O'Brien's colt was slightly weak in the market before the off.

The top two from last month's Prix Vermeille, Bluestocking and Aventure also saw their odds slashed before the off. Bluestocking proved particularly popular and Ralph Beckett's filly went into the stalls as the 5/1 second favourite.

Japan was represented by Shin Emperor, who many anticipated would make a positive move in the market, but the softening ground at Longchamp seemed to be putting Japanese punters off. Legendary Japanese jockey, Yutaka Take partnered with Al Riffa for the first time, and Joseph O'Brien's raider was supported into a single-figure price.

German raider, Fantastic Moon took his chance, despite connections apparently withdrawing their runner from the contest earlier in the afternoon. Delius, Sunway and Survie also represented the three-year-old generation. Andre Fabre's pair of Mqse De Sevigne and Sevenna's Knight were friendless in the market. Continuous, Zarakem and Haya Zark completed the Arc line-up.

The field got off to an even break, with Fantastic Moon and Sevenna's Knight dropping to the rear early on. Rossa Ryan and Bluestocking got off to a good start. As did Los Angeles and Ryan Moore seemed keen to take the race by the scruff of the neck, taking his three-year-old mount straight to the front.

Bluestocking and Aventure settled behind the leader early on. Sosie was prominent, along with Oisin Murphy aboard Sunway. Look De Vega was buried away in the midfield early on, along with Shin Emperor. Continuous, Sevanna's Knight and Mqse De Sevigne took their time at the rear.

Entering the bend, Los Angeles opened up a two-length lead. Sunway seemed to pay the price for a wide trip around the bend and began to fall away, as the horses from the rear attempted to make some inroads.

Turning in and Ryan Moore kicked for home. Rossa Ryan, who sat behind Los Angeles throughout, angled Bluestocking out for a crack at the leader and Ralph Beckett's filly took off.

Bluestocking swept Los Angeles aside and bounded into a clear advantage. Aventure also overtook the tiring leader, as the top two from the Prix Vermeille settled down for a battle. However, with a furlong to travel, it became clear that Bluestocking had plenty in hand and Rossa Ryan put his finger to his lips as Bluestocking crossed the line.

Aventure finished a clear second ahead of Los Angeles who, to his credit, saw out the trip well to finish third. Sosie crossed the line fourth, having never really threatened to get into the contest. Sevenna's Knight made up ground from the rear to place fifth. Nothing else really got into the contest.
