All eyes will be on France this Sunday, as Deauville racecourse stages the 2021 renewal of the Prix Jean Prat. This historic Group One was first run way back in 1867, and 13 of Europe's top three-year-old will attempt to add their name to the illustrious roll of honour this weekend.

We've taken a look through the odds and the form, before picking out our best bet.

In French Group One races, I often prefer to side with the home representatives. Unbeaten Godolphin runner, Midtown makes his reappearance on Sunday and sits prominently in the betting. Stablemate Erasmo has won four of his seven starts and is yet to finish outside the top three, while Fast Raaj has much more to offer than what he showed in the Jersey Stakes.

All three could attract support. Yet, for a couple of years now, British and Irish horses have consistently outperformed their French counterparts - especially in the three-year-old age group. Three of the last four Prix Jean Prats have been won by raiders, and no French runner has finished better than fourth since 2018.

Aidan O'Brien has farmed the French Classics this season and throws both Battleground and Wembley into the mix. Wembley has been super disappointing in 2021, but Battleground returned to something like his best form when third behind Poetic Flare in the St James's Palace Stakes last time out.

Like Wembley, Thunder Moon has been really disappointing so far this season, failing to build on a strong juvenile campaign. Archie Watson's Mehmento also makes the trip over to France again, having finished 11th of 12 behind St Mark's Basilica in the French 2000 Guineas on his last trip over the Channel.

The one I'm keen to back is NAVAL CROWN, who's done very little wrong so far this season. Charlie Appleby's front-runner made all to beat future 2000 Guineas runner-up, Master Of The Seas by almost two lengths out in Meydan back in February and ran another cracker on his return to England in the European Free Handicap, where he was passed by Tactical in the strides before the line.

Naval Crown then made the running down the centre in the 2000 Guineas, and only Poetic Flare, Master Of The Seas and Lucky Vega were able to pass him. Appleby's star then had the rail to help him home in the Jersey Stakes, and it looked for a while like the joint-favourite was going to hold them all off, only for stablemate Creative Force to find an extra gear in the closing stages.

The draw could prove vitally important on Sunday. Naval Crown has been drawn against the rail in stall one. Fellow front-runner, Mehmento will provide Kevin Manning's mount with company from stall three, while Battleground will have to make his challenge from the opposite side of the track, having been drawn out in stall 13.

Horses have won the Prix Jean Prat from all parts of the track, but they often congregate towards the near rail in the closing stages, so for a front-runner like Naval Crown, being drawn in one could prove to be a massive advantage.

With plenty of excellent form in the book and the rail to help him home, Naval Crown could hand Charlie Appleby a second successive win in the Prix Jean Prat.
