Great George Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 5 No. 8 Happy Time
Blake Shinn and Chris So combine in the fifth at Happy Valley with this son of Smart Missile who can be hit or miss, hence the big price on offer, but his best figures are more than good enough for this Class 4 contest and he did return with a nice midfield effort on October 28.
Whilst he did fail second-up, there was some excuses in that December 2 attempt and although tired as his last campaign wore on, we only need to go back to early 2020 to see Happy Time very competitive at Class 3 level.
With tactical versatility which gives Shinn a few options early, this gelding should be respected in what isn't overly strong race and as mentioned, he is certainly capable enough on his day.
Cannon Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 10 Kurpany
Following just an event effort at Sha Tin when beaten two and a half lengths on resumption, it was impossible to miss the December 16 performance as runner-up from this four-year-old who is closing in on his first Hong Kong victory.
Prepared by leading trainer Caspar Fownes, who has notched up 19 winners at Happy Valley this season, he was eased back early after drawing wide in that most recent effort and still found himself at the rear approaching the 150m before clicking into gear then rattling home over the concluding stages.
Jockey Alexis Badel has barrier one at his disposal this evening where he can position up much closer from and with a few more favours from that better spot in transit, Kurpany does look the one to beat here.
Kingston Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Maldives
Champion jockey Zac Purton going on to any galloper is as good as a gear change in Hong Kong and he'll be looking to turn the fortunes around for this gelding who was luckless on December 9 over this track and trip.
The son of Burgundy was on the receiving end of a big early squeeze via that last attempt, which spat him out the back early and was still a long way off the leader rounding the turn but pinched inside runs in the straight, to incredibly be just half a length off the winner Gallant Crown on the line.
With just the six starts to his name, Maldives is a galloper that still appears to be on an upwards spiral and from barrier one, we're expecting Purton to have the David Hall-trained runner much closer early and with a change of luck, he does look due for a breakthrough win.
Cleveland Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 9 No. 9 Clement Legend
This honest son of Ocean Park does generally save his best for Happy Valley (five wins from 17 starts on this circuit) and barring the second-up flop on November 1, where he did race three-wide throughout, the preparation has been ticking over nicely.
From a wide gate, it was lovely ride from Vincent Ho on the December 2 program here, who had Clement Legend blending into the race nicely, but just couldn't match the dogged Murray's Partners who he meets again in this contest, but has a 2.5kg weight swing in his favour from that last clash which could prove crucial.
From barrier three this evening which allows them to do much less work early and with a solid base of three runs this season including an 1800m hit-out, this six-year-old should be nearing his peak now and is an each-way price in the last race of the night.
