Po Loi Handicap Tips (Race 1)
This lightly raced gelding from the David Hall yard didn't have any luck first-up at Sha Tin and finding what looks to be a weaker Class 4 this evening, he can bounce back second-up with Zac Purton taking the reins.
The inside barrier was ultimately the undoing for Charge On in that February 21 resumption, where after a slightly tardy getaway, he was hunted up on the fence and as a result, that had him seeing only backsides in the run home.
A galloper that defeated Incanto Prepared last season (now a Class 3 winner), he's certainly capable enough and as a runner that needs that bit of momentum, drawn out more along with the step to the 1650m for the first time are positives.
Po Loi Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Barring the 2200m attempt last June, a trip that he didn't run out, the son of Frankel has been very consistent in Class 3 company and now coming back to Class 4 level, this as good a chance as he'll get to bounce back to the winner's stall.
Prior to the step up in grade, Tangmere won emphatically in this grade and over the Happy Valley 1650m last April, where the gelding also carried the same 60.5kg impost that he has this evening.
With this race in mind, there hasn't been much to fault with his two efforts so far this campaign, which have both been on the All-Weather circuit and the return to Happy Valley from a good draw is in his favour (two of three career wins have come here).
Gillies Handicap Tips (Race 5)
With the speed likely to be on again courtesy Whiskey Neat and potentially Vector working across from a wider gate, this can play into the hands of Romantic Trove, a galloper that is knocking on the door for a breakthrough victory.
The four-year-old clashes again with the favourite Stock Legend, who was an impressive first-up winner but this gelding had a near three-length margin on him in that last start clash, albeit was the beneficiary of that good speed, but the tempo should be strong again.
Zac Purton jumps aboard Romantic Trove this evening and if he's able to blend in a little earlier with a back to follow, then he'll be the one launching at the business end of this 1200m dash.
Baker Handicap Tips (Race 8)
The winning strike rate isn't flash but this son of All Too Hard is pretty well an each-way chance in whatever they place him in and racing consistently at present, this is an event where he could chime in over the top and provide some value for the exotics/roughie players.
While he was never in winning calculations last start give the muddling tempo up front. electing to ride for luck on the rail instead running on out wider has likely cost him third, as he was bailed up at a key stage in the run home.
The form and times do point towards Capital Star as the likely winner of this event, but there's not much there for the punters at $1.50 for a short favourite who has a 3.5kg penalty off that March 3 victory.
