Merlin Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 3 No. 1 C P Brave
This lightly raced gelding was tardy away from the barriers in his Hong Kong debut on May 2, but managed to recover for an eventual fifth-place finish, making some ground despite a slow speed set up front.
C P Brave now steps to a more suitable distance and comes to Happy Valley, a circuit in which he trialled on back in March 27 and caught the eye for third on that occasion, coming from well off the speed.
The son of Zoffany has been kept up to the mark with a May 18 trial at Sha Tin, a heat he was able to win and although is still a work in progress, is probably the runner in this field with the most upside and finds a more suitable event here.
Westlands Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Fa Fa
Stepping up to the 1650m on April 28 was the catalyst in bringing about the first victory for this three-year-old and with just a 2kg penalty for a very similar race, he is quite well placed to go back-to-back.
In a race that wasn't necessarily run to suit with many of the on-pace runners sticking on, all of the credit goes to Fa Fa who sustained a long run and was pulling away comfortably on his rivals in the finish.
With some different form lines, Superb Daddy may be his biggest threat, a runner that has strung together many competitive efforts, but with winning form and having less convictions, this gelding gets the nod again.
Tong Shui Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Telecom Smart
Karis Teetan and Me Tsui combine in the sixth from Happy Valley with Telecom Smart, a galloper that is bursting to win his first race in Hong Kong, arriving here off consecutive seconds, both over this track/trip.
Showing some potential in Australia when racing as 'Truffle House', Telecom Smart has been his own worst enemy with some poor barrier manners, but he was a little better in that regard on April 28, aided with Teetan hunting up early to find a position.
They now jump from barrier two and ideally looking to be within striking distance late via a soft run that low draw, he finds what looks a very winnable assignment, especially with any luck in transit.
Marble Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Sparkling Dragon
This gelding was a little unlucky not to have won first-up on April 28, coming with a wide run from off the speed and was only narrowly denied by Snap Fit, a rival that stuck to the rail and never went around a horse.
A very honest six-year-old that has a consistent record at Class 3 level, Sparkling Dragon was clearly the pick of the runners out wide via that last start, with the third and fourth runners across the line both settling on the fence in the run.
With prior form around Grateful Heart and in what should be fast run sprint here with both Wine And Wine and Equaletta Blitz rolling forward from wide draw, he's at least an each-way chance at decent odds.
