Happy Valley Tips March 20
Wong Nai Chung Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Glory Cloud
It was a fair debut run from this Caspar Fownes-trained galloper, who tracked into proceedings well over the Sha Tin 1400m before peaking late when a tight gap presented.
Despite a pass mark in that first race day showing, along with a slick tick-over trial, Glory Cloud was sent out as a $20 chance at start two, where the gelding was a big eye-catcher.
The four-year-old was back and wide in that Happy Valley attempt on February 21, and behind an all-the-way winner who saluted well, he was easily the pick of the off-speed brigade.
Although he'll need a few favours as he's likely to settle off them, Glory Cloud brings the best last start figure in this field and he's arguably the most progressive horse in the race.
The Craigengower Cricket Club Cup Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Favourite - Race 5 No. 6 Super Charizzard
Being out of a Dalakhani mare who has Zabeel close up in her dam's side, the 1000m dash always looked a query on debut for this gelding, as he is bred to get over more ground.
Super Charizzard was respected in the market off some strong trial work and given he was severely checked at the 550m when back in the field, the recovery was admirable.
He managed to pick himself up despite losing ground at that key stages and after being ridden for luck in the straight, he made ground in restricted room for an eventual midfield finish.
There should be plenty of natural improvement to come at start two and with the step to 1200m this evening being another positive, Super Charizzard has claims in a weak Class 4.
Percival Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 6 No. 5 All Riches
While he hasn't won in two outings in this distance range, both of those performances were in stronger company and he did play up behind the barriers before his first mile attempt.
The Ricky Yiu-trained galloper is still lightly raced for a six-year-old and he did show promise via the back-end of his first Hong Kong season when recording back-to-back victories.
Although he was competitive in some Class 3 appearances that followed, All Riches has dropped back to Class 4 level via his last five starts, which includes two runs to start this campaign.
After producing some mixed form last season, the son of Wandjina has been very honest in two on-speed efforts at Sha Tin and those runs should top him off nicely for the 1650m third-up.
Russell Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 8 No. 10 Aestheticism
This four-year-old hasn't finished in the money via four tries at Class 3 level, but he still has upside and back down in the weights here in a race with more tempo, he can figure.
Aestheticism launched from off the speed to record two brilliant Class 4 triumphs over November and December, which resulted in him starting as a $2.50 fav in his Class 3 debut.
His best performance in this grade came when returning to Happy Valley on February 7, where the gelding got home for fourth in what was a blanket finish with both second and third.
Despite it being a 5.5-length losing margin last start, there was still some merit to that run given he was at the rear and came from wide/against the pattern in what was a slowly run race.
Tin Lok Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 11 Wings Of War
The grey was freshened-up after three modest runs to start the campaign and that little break has brought about a turnaround in form, with Wings Of War placing via his last two outings.
While he appeared to have his chance in the first of those when runner-up behind Sugar Sugar, the five-year-old came again late in that attempt and the winner had a saloon passage.
Along with having a huge weight swing in his favour here on Sugar Sugar, that winner franked the form at his next outing and he followed that latest triumph with a third last Wednesday.
Other market elects are Colourful Emperor, who has a 5.5kg penalty from his first win in this grade and Solar Partner is suspect at this level (0/5), so Wings Of War does find his right race.
