Ma Tau Wai Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Happy Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Pegasus General
He was a Happy Valley Class 3 winner just over 12 months ago and while the gelding was competitive in subsequent runs via that level, his rating allowed him to drop in grade.
Pegasus General has remained thereabouts in his last four Class 4 attempts, with the worst of his recent runs being an eighth-of-fifteen in a leader dominated race at Sha Tin.
The six-year-old bounced off that outing to record a brave third over this track/trip last start, where he sustained long run from back in the field despite being three-wide and without cover.
He finished just off an in-form Serangoon via that March 6 event and with more favours predicted this evening from a low draw, Pegasus General should go close with even luck.
Lok Fu Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 4 No. 3 Ragnarr
The son of Olympic Glory was sold to Hong Kong after bolting in on Australian debut when campaigning as Leap Year, with the ex-Michael Kent runner leading throughout in that win.
He was unlucky in his first Hong Kong appearance back in July last year, where Ragnarr covered ground in a Class 3 over this track/trip and he tired late for a four-length loss as result.
Although he was contesting some stronger races earlier this season, the gelding didn't fire a shot until he dropped to Class 4 company two starts back and he did whack away fairly there.
Ragnarr covered more ground than the early settlers when last seen on March 6 and now from an inside draw, where he gets some relief after the Jerry Chau claim, he can improve.
To Kwa Wan Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Comet Splendido
With limited chances, Australian Jockey Ben Thompson has acquitted himself well in his short Hong Kong stint and his two wins have both come at long odds aboard Courier Wonder.
Danny Shum is one of the leading trainers at Happy Valley this season and with Comet Splendido, he provides Ben Thompson with a genuine winning opportunity this evening.
From a kinder draw, the six-year-old arguably would've won a Class 3 over this track/trip second-up last prep and he then forced to spell, having bled from both nostrils third-up.
Comet Splendido put in a decent effort when returning at Sha Tin on March 3 and now back to a Class 4 at Happy Valley, where gate two can offset the weight, he's very well placed.
Ma Tau Kok Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Happy Valley Favourite - Race 8 No. 3 Quantum Patch
His worst run of the season was fourth-up, where Quantum Patch was forced wide early when back in an on-speed dominated race, but he's bounced off that December 29 run.
The son of Gleneagles was held-up for most the run home two starts back over seven furlongs at Sha Tin and while he handles both circuits, his better form has come at Happy Valley.
Zac Purton took the latest engagement and the champion hoop will be looking to atone for that two-length defeat, as he did get sleepy when back in the field via a slowly run race.
Quantum Patch was completely unsuited in that last outing, so the consistent gelding gets another look in what should be a faster-run affair, while he has completed a tick-over trial.
Kowloon City Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 9 No. 4 Beauty Infinity
After a big victory on February 28, our main query was the odds-on quote for his Class 3 debut last start and while it was the right move to dodge him, he was still terrific in defeat.
The smaller sprint fields at Happy Valley are often tactical and Beauty Infinity was given a horror run in transit, with the son of Toronado forced to chase after racing three-wide.
He stuck to the task admirably, with the John Size-trained galloper finishing a length away in third and in the process, a big margin was opened up on the next runner home in that race.
The handicapper hasn't exactly helped either here or via his first try at Class 3 level, however, this progressive sprinter already has a tidy record and he can bounce back.
