Heading the market at bookmaker.com.au for the 2022 Hong Kong Cup is Romantic Warrior ($3), a local galloper prepared by Danny Shum and this gelding arrives off a first-up victory in the Group 2 Jockey Club Cup on November 20, which is one of the key lead-up races.

This four-year-old has won eight from nine overall, which includes a Group One victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup on April 24 and that race is contested over the 2000m at Sha Tin.

Japanese-based horses have a strong recent record in this race, having won five of the last seven Hong Kong Cups, which includes the last three editions.

The most favoured Japanese runner in the early markets is Jack D'Or ($4.20), a son of the champion Maurice, who won the 2016 Hong Kong Cup.

On the third line of betting is Panthalassa ($6.50), a five-year-old who arrives off a runner-up finish in the Group One Tenno Sho on October 30.

Prepared by Yoshito Yahagi (trainer of 2021 Hong Kong Cup winner - Loves Only You), Panthalassa is perhaps most famous for dead-heating in first with Lord North in the 2022 Dubai Turf.

Rounding out the single figure chances in the 2022 Hong Kong Cup is Danon The Kid ($8), a consistent performer in Japan, who has a win and two placings from five attempts at Group One level.
