The second of two Grade One races at Sha Tin on Sunday is the Stewards' Cup. This contest is one of Hong Kong racing's most historic, having first been run in 1994. Many of Hong Kong's best milers have won this Grade One, and Golden Sixty will look to add his name to that list this weekend.

We take a look through the latest odds, before picking out our best bet.

2021 Stewards' Cup Tips

Golden Sixty will be looking to win his 12th race in a row on Sunday, and it's hard to see how the odds-on favourite will get beaten.

KW Lui's stable star has lost just once during his career. Golden Sixty started last season winning over sprint distances, and ended his 2019/20 campaign scoring over 10 furlongs. Lui immediately stepped his five-year-old up in class on his reappearance, and Golden Sixty has responded with four comfortable wins.

It wasn't until his latest run in the Hong Kong Mile that Golden Sixty ran in Grade One company for the first time. CY Ho's mount looked head and shoulders above his rivals again, and after being drawn kindly in the centre of the track, another win looks a mere formality.

There are, however, three paid placed available here, making an each-way punt look profitable. The only runner here who hasn't been beaten by Golden Sixty at least once is Rise High, but Caspar Fownes' seven-year-old hasn't been seen on the track since December 2019.

The most appealing proposition in the betting is WAIKUKU, who justified an SP of 1/2 when beating Beauty Generation to win this race 12 months ago.

Since then, John Size's six-year-old has been beaten three times, but was given way too much to do by Joao Moreira in the Champions Mile and ran a decent race to finish two-lengths adrift of Golden Sixty in the Hong Kong Mile.

Moreira won't be worried about his wide draw, having won from stall seven last season. As long as there are three places up for grabs, Waikuku looks a solid bet.

I doubt Waikuku will be able to upstage Golden Sixty, who's undoubtedly the best horse in Hong Kong. However, 12/1 on the defending champion to at least hit the frame looks good value.
