50 days after the British equivalent took place at Epsom, some of the sport's top fillies will battle it out in the Irish Oaks this weekend. As with all of the Classics in Britain and Ireland, Aidan O'Brien's record in the Irish Oaks is excellent and his two runners currently head the betting.

2024 Irish Oaks Runners
There's been a huge shake-up in the Irish Oaks betting since the field was confirmed. Ryan Moore had been expected to ride Port Fairy, who topped the market after her victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes. However, as soon as Moore was confirmed in Content's saddle, Aidan O'Brien's apparent second-string was backed into favouritism.
Under Ryan Moore, Content was last seen keeping on from the rear to finish third in the Pretty Polly Stakes. While that was an encouraging performance on her first start beyond a mile, she was very disappointing on her opening two starts of the season and she's out of a sprinter in Mecca's Angel, so getting a mile-and-a-half might not come naturally.
Lope De Lilas hasn't been done any favours by the draw, having been placed in stall one. Dare To Dream and War Chimes - who I backed at 100/1 for the Oaks at Epsom - hold decent claims. Yet, I hate backing hold-up horses at the Curragh, especially when there are so many obvious front-runners in the field.
Caught U Looking will go forward from stall nine. Ralph Beckett's raider You Got To Me - who I considered backing at 25/1 - is another who'll look to get forward early, and I doubt Wayne Lordan will be too far away from the early pace on Port Fairy.
2024 Irish Oaks Tips
If Epsom Oaks winner, Ezeliya was still in training, then she'd be a short price to win this Classic. PURPLE LILY (20/1) gave Ezeliya a real run for her money in the Salsabil Stakes, where Billy Lee's finishing effort was hampered when he lost his iron in the closing stages.
Despite seeing out ten furlongs very strongly at Navan, Paddy Twomey decided to drop Purple Lily back down to a mile for the Irish 1000 Guineas. Lee's mount got a little outpaced when Fallen Angel set off for home, but finished her race well to cross the line fifth, just half-a-length adrift of third-place Opera Singer.
Purple Lily looked like a middle-distance filly when trouncing 105-rated Portland on her return to action in a conditions race and hit the line hard in the Salsabil. I'm excited to see what Twomey's filly will produce over this extended distance and, at 20/1, she's a live each-way contender.
