The first Grade One race for hurdlers in Ireland takes place at Punchestown on Saturday, as a select field enters the Morgiana Hurdle. State Man has won the last two renewals of this famous race and will bid to emulate the great Hurricane Fly, who claimed a hat-trick of Morgiana wins between 2012 and '14.

Let's take a look through the odds for this year's Morgiana Hurdle and highlight the most likely runners.

2024 Morgiana Hurdle Runners

Having enjoyed an unbeaten campaign in 2023/24, State Man is long odds-on to retain his crown in the Morgiana Hurdle. Willie Mullins' star won this race for a second time on his reappearance 12 months ago, before taking his tally of Grade One wins to ten with victories at Leopardstown, Punchestown and the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Willie Mullins accounts for seven of the 12 entrants. State Man could be joined in the field by Grade One-winning novices Ballyburn and Mystical Power, as well as Mares' Hurdle winner Lossiemouth, who has been given the target of the Champion Hurdle in 2025.

Daddy Long Legs, Winter Fog and Sir Gerhard have also been entered by Mullins, who accounts for seven of the first eight in the market. The only leading contender not trained by Mullins is Gordon Elliott's mare Brighterdaysahead, who made a winning reappearance at Down Royal earlier this month.

Gordon Elliott has also handed an entry to Fils D'oudairies, who finished third behind State Man 12 months ago. Aspire Tower could represent the in-form Henry De Bromhead. Oliver McKiernan's No Looking Back, and Andrew Slattery's Smooth Tom round off the entries.
