Nicky Henderson was in a confident mood as he discusses Constitution Hill's imminent return at Ascot this weekend.
Constitution Hill was handed a staggering rating of 170 following his emphatic victory in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last season. Henderson and owner, Michael Buckley have set their sights on a showdown with Honeysuckle in the 2023 Champion Hurdle, for which Constitution Hill is the 5/4 ante-post favourite with Betfair.

Henderson usually takes a tried and tested route with his Champion Hurdle contenders, starting out in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle before taking in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton en route to Cheltenham. However, Constitution Hill won't be heading to Newcastle for his reappearance, and will instead make his long-awaited return in Saturday's Coral Hurdle at Ascot.

"It's a sensible place to go." Henderson told Sky Sports Racing. "We've discussed it with Michael (Buckley, owner). Ascot is a lovely track for him. It's two-miles-and-three [furlongs] but I can't believe that's going to be an issue. We hope the rain arrives swiftly at Ascot."

"It also means Epatante can go back to the Fighting Fifth, which she has won for the last two years."

Constitution Hill is long odds-on to make a winning reappearance. Henderson's five-year-old is the 4/7 favourite ahead of Brewin'Upastorm. Good Risk At All, Goshen and Willie Mullins' Saint Sam also feature in the field.

Two more of last season's stars will make their reappearances at Ascot this weekend. Brown Advisory Novices' Chase winner, L'Homme Presse will carry an odds-on price into the 1965 Chase, before Arkle winner Edwardstone returns in the Hurst Park Handicap Chase, after fast ground scuppered his intended comeback in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham.
