History was made at Punchestown on Tuesday, as the opening handicap was taken out by a 300/1 outsider.

Sawbuck matched the record this afternoon for being the biggest priced winner in the history of British and Irish racing, when he was successful in the 1:20 at Punchestown. The horse, who was a maiden prior to his win, prevailed at odds of 300-1.

One Coral punter placed £2 each-way on the horse and scooped £724.

John Hill of Coral said, “After showing little form prior to his victory at Punchestown, Sawbuck went off as a 300-1 outsider for his race."

"He has matched the record for the biggest priced winner in British and Irish racing history. Not many punters looked twice at the horse, but we tip our hat to the customer who placed £2 each-way on the winner. They clearly saw something others had missed!”

Sawbuck was trained by Conor O'Dwyer and ridden by his son, Charlie, who made all the running before kicking clear after the last. That 300/1 winner equaled the record for the longest-priced winner in history. He Knows No Fear returned the same price when he struck at Leopardstown back in August 2020.
