2025 Lightning Novices' Chase Entrants

Before Sir Gino burst onto the scene over Christmas, Britain's leading hope for the 2025 Arkle Challenge Trophy was L'Eau Du Sud. Dan Skelton's star won the Arkle Trial at Cheltenham in November, before seeing off two Gordon Elliott raiders to land the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown.

Skelton's star will carry a five-pound penalty for that Grade One victory, which could explain why he sits second in the market. The odds-on favourite for Friday's feature is Paul Nicholls' recruit Caldwell Potter, who drops back down in trip following a third-place finish behind Jango Baie at Cheltenham in December.

Bryan Carver rides Harry Fry's Gidleigh Park, who was pulled up on his chasing debut at Kempton in November. Ben Jones and Ben Pauling team up with Personal Ambition, who might have won the Noel Novices' Chase at Ascot had it not been for a telling error at the final flight.

Former Mares' Novices' Hurdle winner, You Wear It Well is still looking for her first win over fences, having been beaten in two Listed races so far this season. Dan Skelton has handed further entries to Beat Box and Skycutter. Helen Nelmes' eight-year-old Universal Secret rounds off the early betting.
