Aidan O'Brien spoke to the press on Monday about City Of Troy, following his majestic performance in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.

City Of Troy received an RPR of 116 for his victory on Saturday. To put that mark into perspective, Native Trail only managed to hit 109 when winning the same race in 2021 and Auguste Rodin was handed an RPR of 118 when winning the Vertem Trophy 12 months ago, on what was his fourth career start.

In the juvenile ranks, only stablemate River Tiber has managed an RPR of 110 or more this term, so viewers were treated to a truly special performance at Newmarket. Aidan O'Brien was quizzed by the press on Monday and couldn't be any more complimentary about his new star juvenile.

"He's such a lovely horse, a great-natured one too." O'Brien said to the Racing Post. "He's got a lovely stride, good balance and he has all the things that you would dream about in a horse."

"He's got a great mind too. Dean (Gallagher, work rider) has done a terrific job with him. He's unbelievable really. He's an independent thinker and not influenced by anything else around him. He's a very relaxed and chilled individual. He's very happy to make his own running, or get a lead, it doesn't really matter to him. He's just lovely really."

O'Brien was then questioned about where we could see City Of Troy next. Ryan Moore's mount was handed quotes for both the Vertem Trophy and the Breeders' Cup following his romp in the Superlative Stakes, but the Coolmore team seem to be eyeing just one final outing on Irish Champions Weekend, before putting City Of Troy away from what promises to be a spectacular three-year-old campaign.

"Dean rode City Of Troy in a little canter this morning and he was very happy with him. You couldn't be any happier with what he did on Saturday, we were all delighted." O'Brien continued.

"We're looking at the National Stakes for him next. He's such a good mover that we wouldn't want to go too late into the year with him. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I would imagine he might have just one more start this year and it could be the National Stakes. I don't think we would want to be burying him on soft ground."

"His dad won over a mile and a half and his mum stayed that far too, but this guy has loads of pace to go along with it as well, so it's all very exciting."

City Of Troy can already be backed at a short price for the 2024 2000 Guineas, with bet365 offering the best odds of 5/2. River Tiber is the 7/1 second-favourite, ahead of fellow Irish raider Bucanero Fuerte.
