Paul Nicholls Stable Tour 2021/22

Stable Stars

Clan Des Obeaux

"It is hard to believe his is still only nine until the turn of the year, but he has simply been the most wonderful horse to train. He finished an honourable runner-up to reappearance to Bristol De Mai in the Betfair Chase when getting outstayed on desperately heavy ground and then things didn't go to plan in the King George. We changed our riding tactics on him after he finished second to Secret Investor in the Denman Chase and he put in an exemplary performance in the first time cheekpieces in the Betway Bowl. We had to supplement him for the Punchestown Gold Cup on the back of that and he fully justified the decision when just about making all to beat the dual Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo. He looks better than ever, and we will be looking to bring him back in the King George at Kempton. I am sure that there is plenty more to come from him."

Frodon

"Frodon undoubtedly put up the performance of his career when winning the King George at Kempton and is just an incredible horse. He jumped with his usual enthusiasm when fifth to Minella Indo in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham, but he didn't quite get home that day. He ended his campaign with yet another gutsy victory in the Oaksey Chase at Sandown and it is just fantastic to have him in the yard. Options are open for him at the moment but I am strongly considering going to Down Royal for the JN Wine Chase on November 3rd."

Monmiral

"He was a very exciting horse for us last season and won on his debut for us at Exeter before winning the Summit Hurdle at Doncaster and another juvenile event at Haydock in February. We decided to save him for Aintree and he paid us off in style when beating the Triumph Hurdle runner-up Adagio seven and a half lengths. He has done well for his break, and he will probably be aimed at the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle in November."

Iceo

"He obviously only recently joined us, but he was impressive when making a winning debut for Guillame Macaire at Dieppe in August and is another that looks an exciting prospect for juvenile hurdles this season."

Irish Hill

"He has been gelded since his arrival and he looks a thorough stayer. He will go hurdling this autumn and he is another we are looking forward to."

Magistrato

"He was only beaten three lengths when finishing second to Porticello at Auteuil on his debut in April and jumped well and travelled nicely. He has settled in well and he looks a promising juvenile hurdler for us."

Matterhorn

"He is a lovely son of Martaline who has done very well physically through the summer and looks a smart prospect. He made a bad mistake at the last when leading in a listed contest at Auteuil and still ran nicely to finish third. I like him a lot."

Huflower

"He came to us at the end of last season and have given him time to acclimatise. He has a lovely attitude and has taken to jumping hurdles with plenty of enthusiasm. He will start off in novice hurdles shortly."

Kandoo Kid

"He ran well in a very good bumper at Ascot in November when finishing fourth to Wonderwall and he was a horse who developed in improved through the season. He is a horse who has done well, and he will start novice hurdling this autumn."

Knappers Hill

"He had a flawless first season and was given a particularly good ride by Megan when landing the Weatherbys bumper at Aintree's Grand National meeting in good style. He has schooled very well, and he is obviously exciting us as he prepares to launch his hurdling career."

Outlaw Peter

"He joined us after finishing second in a heavy ground bumper at Navan in February and was going to run in the spring, but the ground turned against him. He jumps well and we are looking forward to getting him started over hurdles."

Paso Doble

"He was gelded when he joined us from Jim Bolger, and he made pleasing debut for us in the Adonis at Kempton. We wanted to keep his novice status for this season so took him back to Kempton at the start of the new season and he won in good style. He has done well for his summer break and he could return to action at either Chepstow or Kempton."

Petrossian

"He has always worked well at home, and it came as no surprise to us when he didn't come off the bridle to win at Newbury on his debut. He had a winter break after that, but he just pulled too hard on his return to that course in March. He has schooled well and is another lovely novice hurdling prospect."

Shearer

"He was probably unlucky not to win on his debut at Hereford but didn't help his cause when jumping the road crossing half a furlong from home. He has been pleasing us in his schooling sessions and is a horse to look forward to."

Stage Star

"He did absolutely nothing wrong in three runs in bumper company last season and he looks the sort to thrive further in novice hurdle company. He has a great attitude, and we are looking forward to getting him going over hurdles."

Atholl Street

"He returned with an injury when pulled up in the Dovecote at Kempton but fortunately has recovered well. He looked out of the top drawer when winning twice at Taunton before Christmas and he looks an excellent chasing prospect."

Barbados Buck's

"He won his novice hurdles in decent style last season and wasn't disgraced in the Albert Bartlett on his final start. He is a horse who I have been looking forward to running over fences."

Bravemansgame

"Bravemansgame had a cracking novice hurdle campaign last season and probably enjoyed his finest hour in the Challow at Newbury when slamming Star Gate. He was always a horse I thought would be much better as a chaser and he is a very imposing individual who has size and strength. With a bit of luck, he will take high rank in the novice chasing division this season."

Flash Collonges

"His owners the Gi Gi Syndicate have been very patient, and they gained their just reward last season when he won three times. He has always looked a chaser in the making and, potentially, he could be high class over fences."

Flic Ou Voyou

"He was another who did us proud last season and finished an excellent second in the Novice Championship Final at Sandown on the final day of the season. He is another who will go novice chasing this time and he should do very well over fences."

Friend Or Foe

"We always thought he would make a lovely chaser and he took to fences really well when winning at Uttoxeter in May. We gave him a break after, and he did little wrong on his handicap debut at Warwick last week and he looks capable of winning plenty more races over fences."

McFabulous

"He did well for us over hurdles last season and won the Persian War and the Relkeel as well as running well in defeat. He is another horse we have regarded much more as a chaser and he should do well in novice chases this season."

Solo

"Solo found life hard last season over hurdles after an eyecatching success in the Adonis at Kempton on his debut for us but he is another who has the physique to do well over fences and he has looked a natural in his schooling sessions. I expect him to do a lot better this season."

Threeunderthrufive

"He was a very smart novice hurdler last season and did us proud winning four times and also finishing an excellent sixth to Vanillier in the Albert Bartlett. He is a very sound jumper and has the most amazing temperament and, not surprisingly, we are looking forward to sending him novice chasing this season."

Cyrname

"Cyrname looked right back to best when barely coming off the bridle to beat Vinndication but sadly he could produce anywhere near his form when pulled up in the King George and in the Ascot Chase. He has undergone another palate surgery and all roads lead to the Charlie Hall again."

Enrilo

"He is high class young chaser, and the plan is to start him in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in November. It was sad for his owners that he lost the bet365 in the stewards' room but he is an excellent jumper and there will be other big days for him."

Fidelio Vallis

"He has really come to the fore since we sent him chasing and he is a novice until October 31st so we will head to Chepstow for a listed novice chase on Saturday. He jumps for fun, and he could well continue to improve."

Greaneteen

"He won the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance last season and he will start there again. He ran well in all of his starts and was beaten only two lengths by Put The Kettle On in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March but surpassed all previous effort in the Celebration Chase at Sandown when beating a high-quality field that included Altior. He is a very exciting young chaser who could well improve again this season."

Hitman

"He looks a very exciting prospect for this season and could start off in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter. We probably made too much use of him when he was outstayed at Aintree on his final start but is only a five-year-old and there is much more to come from him."

Lalor

"He was pretty good at his best but has failed to find his best form and Mr Staddon has sent him to us to see if we can help him recapture his form. He has had a breathing operation and let's hope he can rediscover his high-class form."

Next Destination

"He had three years off when he joined us last summer but he has come back and shown that he possesses all his old ability. He won two Grade 2 novices’ chases at Newbury and Warwick and showed he has bottomless stamina. He jumps extremely well, and he is a very classy horse who could be one for the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November."

Politologue

"He has given us some fantastic days at the races and was at his imperious best when beating putting in an exemplary round of jumping to beat Greaneteen seven lengths in the Tingle Creek. We thought Politologue ran up to his best again in desperate conditions in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot but we unfortunately had to abort an attempt at the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the final hour when we found a trickle of blood coming out his nostril when we were putting the saddle on him. He put in a below par run in the Melling Chase and was found to have bled but he has had a long break with the Hales family and looks as enthusiastic as ever. We are working away to the Tingle Creek but whatever he does he has been a fantastic servant to his owners and to the stable."

Saint Calvados

"He has joined us this season for owner Andrew Brooks and has had a breathing operation. He was beaten only a neck by Min in the 2020 Ryanair Chase and looked a live threat to Frodon in the King George until tiring late on. He is an exciting horse for this year, and he could make his debut for us at Ascot in November."

Secret Investor

"Secret Investor sustained a minor tendon injury before he was due to head for the Betway Bowl at Aintree and that will keep him out until after Christmas. He is another wonderfully honest horse who put in another hallmark performance when beating Clan Des Obeaux in the Denman Chase and we look forward to his return."

Tamaroc Du Mathan

"He is a very athletic chaser and did very well when winning twice and finishing second to Shishkin in the Wayward Lad. He was suited by the two and a half miles when winning the Pendil Novices' and he is a horse with plenty of scope for improvement. We will probably go for an Intermediate Chase and we will go from there."
