Following an excellent victory in the Fillies' Mile, Paddy Power pushed Pretty Gorgeous into 6/1 favouritism for the 2021 1000 Guineas.
Punters were anticipating another thrilling renewal of the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket this afternoon, and the race itself didn't disappoint. Indigo Girl had topped the betting for much of the build-up, but money came for Pretty Gorgeous during the morning, and Joseph O'Brien's raider eventually went off as the 5/2 favourite.
Shane Crosse, who was forced to miss the ride on St Leger winner Galileo Chrome when he returned a positive Covid test last month, gave the market leader an excellent ride. Crosse tracked Irish rival Shale, who had beaten Pretty Gorgeous in the Moyglare Stud Stakes last time out, but moving into contention coming out of the dip.
Indigo Girl came from the rear to serve it up to the favourite, who still looked a little green out in front. Shane Crosse's mount, however, wasn't for passing, and Pretty Gorgeous ran out an impressive winner.
"She's very good." O'Brien told ITV Racing following the race. "She's top class and she proved that today."
"She's an outstanding physical (specimen). From the first day she worked, she's been impressive at home and she hasn't disappointed us all year."
When asked whether a tilt at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile was on the cards, O'Brien indicated that the 2021 1000 Guineas was the team's top priority.
"It's an option (The Breeders' Cup) but I'd say it's more likely she'll be put away now and be trained at the 1000 Guineas next year."
A 14/1 shot before the race, Paddy Power slashed Pretty Gorgeous' price in the betting for that Classic, listing the Fillies' Mile winner as their new 6/1 favourite.
Another juvenile filly to impress on Friday was Saffron Beach, who extended her unbeaten record in the Pretty Polly Stakes over seven furlongs.
After the race, Jane Chapple-Hyam claimed Saffron Beach was the best filly she'd ever trained. Unlike Joseph O'Brien, Chapple-Hyam seemed keen on a trip to the Breeders' Cup, before stating she would love to run her filly in the 1000 Guineas next year.
Saffron Beach was then cut into 16/1 by Paddy Power in their 2021 1000 Guineas betting. Shale dropped back from favouritism to 16/1, with Indigo Girl coming into 8/1 behind Pretty Gorgeous.
