Kevin Ryan is confident that star three-year-old, Inisherin will bounce back to his best in Saturday's Sprint Cup.
Having found a mile too stiff in the 2000 Guineas, Inisherin shot to the head of the three-year-old sprint standings during the first half of the season. Kevin Ryan's star blitzed his rivals in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock, before scoring in the Commonwealth Cup during the Royal meeting at Ascot.
On the back of that maiden Group One triumph, Inisherin was fancied against the older sprinters in the July Cup at Newmarket. Despite the three-year-olds dominating the betting, it was the older sprinters who prevailed that day. Mill Stream edged out Swingalong in a thrilling finish, with Tom Eaves' mount crossing the line three lengths further back in fifth.
After the July Cup, the next six-furlong assignment is the Sprint Cup. Ryan has been busy preparing his star sprinter for Haydock since that flop at the July Festival and, speaking to the press over the weekend, the trainer seemed in a confident mood.
"Inisherin is in great form, all his work is done now." Ryan said. "He did his last piece of work yesterday and we're delighted with where we are with him. We're very happy going into the race."
When asked about his run in the July Cup, Ryan said, "He was in good form going into the race and came out of it very well. I don't think he handled the track."
"I don't think he came down the hill great that day. When he hit the rising ground he started to get going again, but in that class of race you can't make that ground back up. The ground was a bit tacky, a little dead on top, and that didn't help him either."
"He was very good at Ascot and very good at Haydock the time before that. And he ran a great race in the Guineas on the other course at Newmarket."
"It's just one of those things, you're always going to have a bump in the road at some stage."
"He's a class horse and we're very happy with all his prep. We're looking forward to going to Haydock with him."
Inisherin will face Swingalong again on Saturday, with another Karl Burke runners, the three-year-old Elite Status splitting the rivals in the market. The full betting for Saturday's Sprint Cup can be found here on our website.
