Race 1 - LUCY ENGLISH (6)
LUCY ENGLISH produced a promising debut effort over this distance. The manner in which she ran on at the finish was eye-catching. She found plenty of betting support that day which suggests that she had been showing good work back at home. The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade returns from a 13-week break today, during which time she would have strengthened up. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
Race 2 - SOWETO ROSE (4)
SOWETO ROSE is one of the better bets on the card. His last two starts in KZN have been good. He set the pace over 1000m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time and stayed on well to finish third. The son of Soft Falling Rain is having his first run on the Highveld and if suited to the course, he should take a power of beating.
Race 3 - ZAVIAH (4)
Mike and Adam Azzie hold a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. ZAVIAH has shown good improvement in his last two starts. The son of Twice Over stays all day and it is encouraging that Lyle Hewitson has been engaged to ride him. He looks to have plenty of scope and can shed his maiden tag.
Race 7 - LAIRD OF BREEDON (4)
LAIRD OF BREEDON from the Corne Spies stable is the best bet on the programme. He was far from disgraced when finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of Crusade is the best weighted runner in this contest and should take a power of beating.
Race 8 - VALENCIA (7)
VALENCIA’S last two starts have been fair. He finished 3.5 lengths behind TIMEFORTHAT in his penultimate start and is 4kgs better off at the weights today. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. He gets the blinkers re-fitted this afternoon which should keep his mind on the task at hand. Craig Zackey retains the ride and the pair should be among the main chances.
