The 2022 Dubai World Cup Carnival kicks off at Meydan on Friday. Two excellent Grade Two races, the Cape Verdi and the Al Maktoum Challenge R1 feature on Friday's card, along with several lucrative Listed and Conditions races.

We've taken a look through the full card and picked out four horses to back on week one of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Meydan Tips - Friday 14th January

Race 1 - Dubai Racing Club Classic Tips

Of the five Godolphin runners who dominate this betting heat, my preference would be for DUBAI FUTURE. Saeed bin Suroor's six-year-old ran four times here at Meydan last year, winning a handicap over 14 furlongs, twice finishing second to future Grade One winner Walton Street and placing fifth in the Sheema Classic over this trip.

Pat Cosgrave's mount ran well on his prep-run for the Bahrain Trophy, finishing third at Kempton Park. In the Bahrain Trophy, Frankie Dettori made his move a little too early and Dubai Future faded as the fast finishers came to the fore. Now back over his favourite trip of 12-furlongs, I expect Dubai Future to give a good account of himself.

Race 2 - Jumeirah Classic Trial Tips

With Kiwano and Hotline Bling likely to go forward quickly from wider stalls, backing a fast closer could be the way to go. Mr Professor should go well for the little-known Alice Haynes. However, I'd rather side with the powerhouse that is Charlie Appleby and back his sole runner, SOVEREIGN PRINCE (NAP).

Having hit the crossbar a number of times over six-furlongs, William Buick's mount made a winning handicap debut at Epsom in September, running down the front-running Safra to secure a taking victory. This son of Dubawi was doing his best work in the final furlong and he could take plenty of beating on Friday.

Race 3 - Al Maktoum Challenge R1 Tips

Plenty of familiar names from last year's Al Maktoum Challenge return for R1 of the 2022 series. Salute The Soldier made all to win R2 and R3 of the 2021 series, having only finished third behind Military Law in the opening round.

HYPOTHETICAL stayed on from off the pace to finish second behind Salute The Soldier back in March, before fading from the front to place fourth in the Dubai World Cup three weeks later. Mickael Barzalona's mount managed to win a couple of lucrative handicaps around this track last season and goes very well fresh. He looks to be the one to side with.

Race 4 -  Cape Verdi Tips

Soft Whisper may comfortably be the highest rated in this field, but she looked like a quirky sort at three and I don't fancy backing her at a very short price. The value bet against her has to be MNASEK, who made a pleasing return to action here in November, staying on for second over seven furlongs, when giving eleven pounds to the field.

Doug Watson's filly claimed two emphatic wins at Meydan last season, including a six-and-a-half length triumph in the UAE Oaks. A terrible start meant Mnasek couldn't finish any closer than seven lengths behind Soft Whisper when they met in the UAE Guineas and more problems out the stalls proved costly when Pat Dobbs' mount was only ninth in the UAE Derby.

Following that encouraging outing, I'm very happy siding with Mnasek at an each-way price. Fingers crossed she can break level with the rest of the field!
