Lostintranslation heads the 2020 Betfair Chase betting, and Joe Tizzard claims the team have the defending champion primed to run well again.
Bristol De Mai attempted to become the first horse to win the Betfair Chase three times in a row on 2019. Nigel Twiston-Davies star hit the front at the second-last, but was collared by Lostintranslation, who outstayed his rival on the run to the line.

Following a terrible run in the King George at Kempton, Lostintranslation produced a rejuvenated performance in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Tizzard's star went down by just over a length in that Grade One but, considering how poorly the stable performed during the Cheltenham Festival, that has to be regarded a career-best performance.

The Tizzards decided to get a run into Lostintranslation before heading to Haydock Park 12 months ago. This time, the defending champion will head to the Betfair Chase fresh, but Joe Tizzard spoke to the press this week and provided a positive update on their stable star.

"Lostintranslation is exactly where we want him to be." Tizzard said on Monday. "He has had little away day and a racecourse gallop, and we are happy going there first time out.

“Because he could run in an intermediate chase last year at Carlisle, we thought that was the perfect stepping stone for him."

“This year we knew all the way through the Betfair would be his first run, so we have him fit enough to go there and do himself justice at Haydock, because it is a big pot."

“We know he operates well around there, so it was always going to be the obvious starting point for him.”

Robbie Power gave his mount a cool ride at Haydock and in the Gold Cup, and he will take the ride on Lostintranslation again later this month.

“Robbie Power rode him in his gallop, and he schooled him last Wednesday and he will probably school him again."

“Robbie can’t stop smiling when he gets off him, so that tells you plenty. He is very excited and he can’t wait to get back on board him. He is really pleased with where he is, and he is ticking all the right boxes.”

Betfair has Lostintranslation as their 7/4 favourite, just ahead of Bristol De Mai, who's a 2/1 shot. Santini can be found at 3/1, with Clan Des Obeaux the only other horse sitting on shorter than 16/1.
