The opening day of action at Aintree's Grand National meeting features four fantastic Grade Ones. The most valuable is the Aintree Bowl, which has been won by greats of the game like Silviniaco Conti, Wayward Lad and Desert Orchid.
I've taken a look through the final field and picked out my best bets.

Clan Des Obeaux has placed in the last two editions of the Aintree Bowl, including a runner-up finish to Kemboy on the back of another failed attempt at the Gold Cup. Having skipped Cheltenham this year, Clan Des Obeaux is a worthy favourite.
However, Clan Des Obeaux has won just one of his last ten starts going left-handed, compared to four wins from eight starts going the other way around. Nicholls’ star has also won just two of his 12 starts in the second half of the season, and they were weak three and four runner affairs. Stats don’t mean everything, but its enough for me to look past the market leader.
Native River remains a top-quality chaser, but he had a very hard race in the Gold Cup. Tiger Roll will step up into Grade One company for the first time, and I’m not sure whether he’ll have the quality to contend.
Waiting Patiently clearly has talent, but no-one has any idea what his best trip is, and he’s easy to pass up. Mister Fisher will improve for three miles and the ground is idea for Nicky Henderson’s charge. He did, however, have a very hard race behind the superb Allaho in the Ryanair and the three-week turnaround could be too much for him to cope with.
I don’t trust Real Steel. Aso continually comes up short at the highest level, and Militarian isn’t anywhere near a Grade One-quality chaser.

The only entrant who appeals to me is CLONDAW CASTLE, who travels to Aintree on the back of a career-best effort at Kempton. Tom George was stepping his nine-year-old up to three miles for the first time that day, and rose to the task brilliantly, powering clear down the home straight to carry 11-8 into the winners’ enclosure.
Tom George’s star stayed on to finish second to Nuts Well in the Old Roan here on his reappearance, before under top-weight at Newbury’s Ladbrokes Trophy Meeting. Had it not been for Fanion D’Estruval, who badly hampered Tom Scudamore’s mount when he fell in the Peterborough Chase, Clondaw Castle might have finished closer to Mister Fisher and Kalashnikov than his seven-length defeat suggests.
Clondaw Castle is very consistent. He hardly ever runs a bad race. Three miles brought out clear improvement in Clondaw Castle, and good ground at the Grand National Festival is perfect. He appeals each-way at 9/1.
