1000 Guineas Quotes

Fallen Angel - Karl Burke

She should probably be favourite for the 1,000 Guineas with Opera Singer out but they’ve put in another Aidan O’Brien horse in Ylang Ylang, who she beat by 13 and a half lengths in the Moyglare. She obviously had an off day but 13 and a half lengths is a long way. Fallen Angel always showed plenty of ability and she’s unlucky not to be unbeaten. Danny Tudhope was kicking himself he didn’t make more use of her when she finished second at Sandown. She won fair and square in Ireland and was running away from them at the end. I’m confident she’ll stay a mile, she’s a clean-winded filly and she’ll go straight to the Guineas, with a racecourse gallop at the Craven meeting.

Ylang Ylang - Aidan O'Brien

She's done well and I'm very happy with her. Hopefully she'll start in the 1,000 Guineas and go from there. She did well to come back and do what she did last season because everything went wrong with her on her third start at the Curragh when she was too keen. She had to go back to Newmarket and relax and ran a lovely race to finish third in the Rockfel Stakes, but then to do what she did in the Fillies' Mile after a tough race, you'd have to like her a lot. You just have to take your time on her. She could get a mile and a half even though she's out of a Shamardal mare. I spoke to Ryan about whether she could be an Oaks filly and he said she could get the trip, although it's not guaranteed. The way she likes to be ridden would help her get the trip. She's relaxing well in her work and doing all the right things.

Dance Sequence - Charlie Appleby

She was still very raw at the business end of the race (Nell Gwyn), it was similar when she won here in the autumn. She still has a lot of potential and she will have learnt plenty today. The extra furlong in the Guineas will help her and having that run under her belt is a big plus. We still have faith. She is very tough and she really stuck her neck out when the favourite came to challenge her. I like that attitude and she has clearly improved over the winter. She came up short in stakes company last year which is why we didn’t give her a Guineas entry.

Ramatuelle - Christopher Head

Ramatuelle has been a tremendous filly for us as a two-year-old and we are now preparing her for pretty much the mile programme in France, but not only in France, in the UK too. We’re looking all over Europe to make the best programme for her as a three-year-old. It (Newmarket) is of course a possibility, but at the end of the day her owner will decide where she will run and of course there is a possibility she could go for that race. She’s going to go to the Prix Imprudence and then from there we will see where we go. To be a successful miler is the main objective this year. I think Ramatuelle is a really nice filly and Justify has proven he can sire very versatile horses. I’m very happy to have her at three and can’t wait to see what she is going to do for us in the mile races this year.

See The Fire - Andrew Balding

She is our big hope amongst the three-year-olds and goes straight for the 1000 Guineas. She is a beautifully-bred filly who works very well, and I am very happy with her. I think she has a live chance in the Guineas.

Content - Aidan O'Brien

She had a lovely run first time out at Leopardstown and then went to Ascot and was a bit keen in a slowly run race. We had to slow her down and get her to relax. She won at the Curragh under Chris (Hayes) and came home very well when fourth at the Breeders' Cup. She could be a very nice filly and you just have to take your time with her as she has plenty of speed and if you jump her out too handy, she's inclined to do a little too much.

Cinderella's Dream - Charlie Appleby

Cinderella’s Dream showed her talent and William showed his. The saddle pitched up her neck, so William felt that he had to take his feet out the irons and do it cowboy style. She is a talented filly, who is four from four now. We have not got any immediate plans, but Mawj won this race last year and went on to win an English Guineas. I am not saying she is good enough to win an English Guineas, but she is earning her stripes to participate in one and be competitive. Dance Sequence would be our main Guineas filly – she won the Oh So Sharp Stakes – and then we had Devoted Queen break her maiden quite impressively in the autumn. They would be naturally in front of Cinderella’s Dream, but this filly is doing very little wrong and deserves to take her chance.

Buttons - Aidan O'Brien

She won her maiden at Leopardstown last season and is nearly ready to run. We might start her off in the Guineas trial at Leopardstown. She's working nicely and seems in good form.

Porta Fortuna - Donnacha O'Brien

She was brilliant for us last season. When they are so good as two-year-olds, you can never be sure how well they’ll train on, but she seems to have wintered particularly well and her recent work has been very good. I’d like to run her in the 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on April 7th, but if the ground is bad, I’ll be happy enough to give her a racecourse gallop instead and go straight to the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Emalka - Roger Varian

She won at Southwell on her debut and hadn't done any fast work on the grass before her third in the Fred Darling last weekend, so she was learning on the job. I was delighted with how she ran and 50 yards beyond the post she was going away from them. She's in the British and French 1,000 Guineas but she could also wait for something like the Michael Seely at York if we prefer. We're keeping everything on the table at this stage but she's bred to be good and I'm chalking her down as a nice one for the summer.

Star Style - Richard Hannon

This was another very impressive debut performance where she made all and stretched clear of the rest of the field very convincingly. She has always been very nice at home, but is a big filly so she has needed all of her 2-year-old season to come into herself and fill out. She is another exciting prospect and holds an entry for the 1000 Guineas which would not be out of the question after such a commanding performance last week. Another nice horse for long term owner and friend Julie Wood for the season ahead.

Darnation - Karl Burke

She was carrying a niggle last year and has had an operation to iron that out. She ran a good race in the Marcel Boussac but hated the quick ground. She could go straight to the 1,000 Guineas or if it was quick we’d wait for the French Guineas. I’d say she’ll stay beyond a mile but I'm not sure whether she’s a 1m4f horse.

Persian Dreamer - Dominic Ffrench Davis

I hope this rain continues because to win a Group One with her would be the aim, but she needs to get her toe in. She’ll run in one of the Guineas, whether she runs before that we’ll see what happens with the weather. If the word ‘soft’ was in the description we’d love to be at Newmarket because she’s two from three there.

Sacred Angel - Charlie Johnston

Everything has been very smooth up until this point. The question mark over the winter was is she going to be a Guineas filly, or were we going to come into the spring thinking she is definitely not going to stay and start thinking about campaigning her like a Commonwealth Cup filly. From what we have seen at home before today, and that has been reaffirmed today, is that we are a lot more confident she will stay the mile than when we were stood over in the winner’s enclosure here in September. As Jason (Hart) has just said it is almost like riding two different fillies as she has matured that much from two to three. If anything she is almost behind the bridle now, she is like that at home. She is very relaxed, and from that point of view she will give herself every chance of staying the mile. We were not here to find out how good she is, as we know how good she is, we were here to give her a day away from home and replicate all the things she will be doing if she came back here in just under three weeks time and that has all gone perfectly. She is in all three Guineas, but at the moment we are preparing her with Newmarket in mind.

One Look & Purple Lily - Paddy Twomey

My thinking is that One Look won’t go to the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. She’ll run in either the Athasi Stakes or more likely the Cornelscourt Stakes at Leopardstown, with a view to going to the Irish 1,000 Guineas from there.

Purple Lily won’t go to the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and will instead be aimed at the Irish 1,000 Guineas.
